It's one of the oldest sayings in the book, "Treat others the way you wish to be treated." It really did come from a book, the saying originated in the Bible and it's one of the most honest things anyone could tell you.
There have been too many times in life where I've encountered people that are too under appreciated for their kind hearts, there are too many times when very good friends have never heard the "thank you" they most certainly deserve and there are too many times when people have dedicated so much time to people who wouldn't do the same. That's honestly so sad, it pulls at my heart strings when genuine, kind-hearted people's amazing friendships gets taken advantage of. When I was growing up my parents always taught me to follow the Golden Rule: Treat others the way you would like to be treated.
I truly believe that if you are the friend you wish to have you will eventually surround yourself with those kinds of similar friends. That's when you realize they are a blessing and that you were able to get those friends because you were being kind. It really is true that by being a good person you get rewarded with being surrounded by other good people.
By surrounding yourself with good people, you inherently also are a good person that people want to be around. It's a beautiful thing honestly when equally good people surround each other it makes other people want to be better, happier. One thing my parents also tried to teach me is that we are better together than we are apart and for that lesson, I feel blessed.
Knowing how to be a friend you wish to have also comes by example, I am lucky enough and know other people just as lucky to have fantastic parents that definitely treat others the way they wish to be treated. The people I like to be around are the ones that are honest, kind, generous people who care for others like I do.
It's refreshing to have friends that understand me and treat me the way I think a friend should. It's amazing to see the life you can live when you have a kind heart. My one wish for everyone is that they find amazing friends that treat them the way they'd like to be treated, by being the friend they wish to have.
