One of my dearest friends, along with many others that I know, are deathly afraid of spiders. Deathly afraid to the point that if one is spotted in the car, we must stop immediately and she will not return until it is killed. God forbid it gets lost. To her, it is almost an "end of the world" catastrophe, and I am sure there are plenty of you out there, both male and female, who can relate.
One particular time I remember is when I was staying overnight at a friend’s house, and sitting on her bed I looked in the corner and noticed three enormous Daddy Long Legs hanging in the corner of the ceiling. I asked her, “Why don’t you kill those?” Her reply was something along the lines of “Well if I just leave them there I don’t have to deal with them.” I, who am not afraid of spiders, quickly got up, grabbed a sandal and killed them. She was thankful that I took care of the situation and I was happy that I could help. It made me realize, we all need a friend who kills the spiders. No matter it be literal or metaphorical, but it doesn't hurt to have a friend, or be a friend who kills the spiders. Who helps us deal with whatever it is we push away or run from. Some have spiders, some have ex boyfriends, some have unorganized piles of clothes and some have unsettling thoughts, but whatever it may be the corners of our minds, or bedrooms, but no one should be afraid to ask for help.
We all have fears. Fears of bugs, heights, what’s coming next and most commonly the unknown. We can’t always conquer our own and I know you can relate. We all have our own fears and that is what makes us unique. Something that you are afraid of, someone might find excitement in and vice versa. Be there when you can. Be the friend who kills the spiders.
