As human beings in society today, we do whatever we can to try to please everyone we come in contact with. Whether it is our family members, friends, acquaintances, coworkers, significant others, or even just someone we come in contact with on occasion for whatever reason. We subconsciously strive to do whatever it takes to please everyone, and it sometimes leads to the destruction of relationships or the destruction of ourselves. We push ourselves so much; we stretch ourselves so thin, and we lose ourselves in all of our work. In the end, no matter how hard we tried and how far we pushed ourselves away from our true selves, we can't make everyone around us happy. We have pushed ourselves too far for basically nothing. While working towards trying to make everyone around us happy, not only are we working ourselves too much, but we are failing to realize that in all reality, we need to be doing what makes us happy in the sense that we are following God's plan for us. We need to realize that God has a unique plan for each and every one of us, and that plan will not only guarantee us a place in Heaven with Him when we pass on from our lives here on earth, but it will also make us truly happy. We need to stop caring what those around us think, and start caring what God thinks and how we can strive for our ultimate goal. Instead of finding ways to try to make everyone around us happy with us, we need to be finding ways to better ourselves, and be happy in knowing that we are headed towards Heaven.
A lot of the time, it is hard to stand up for yourself and do what is best for you because it is scary to think of what is going to happen if you let someone down by standing up for yourself. Though it is scary, it is something that we have to do sometimes throughout our lifetimes. We can't constantly hold ourselves back due to fear. We need to proudly stand up for what we want and keep pushing forward.
There are times where sitting back and trying to make certain people happy may be better than doing something that makes us happy. We need to be able to figure out ourselves when it is safe to stand up for ourselves and when it is better to just sit back. Whatever the case, when you feel it is necessary to stand your ground, make sure you are respectful of how you say anything you may say. The way a message is delivered says a lot about a person. Standing up for yourself isn't worth it if the new image that a person has of you is of you being disrespectful. Good luck to anyone who feels it is time to step up and stand up for themselves.
