The other day I was sitting in class and heard a girl whisper to her friend “I wish I was her, she’s so perfect.” Let me just start with, no one is perfect. I mean damn, if there was such thing as perfect we’d all be doomed. As I heard this, it got me thinking about how often we wish we were someone else or how we want someone else's life crosses our mind. We should be using that time for thinking of ways to improve ourselves instead of thinking about someone else. We can start with motivation. A driven person is a successful person. Be motivated to be the best version of you as possible. Set goals that you can reach and once you’ve reached those goals set higher ones! The only way you’re going to become the person you’re jealous of is if you challenge yourself.
When we are young the possibilities are endless. I remember setting up a cardboard box and writing “Hotel” on it and setting a little calculator I found in my parent’s drawer on the top pretending it was the cash register. At night, I would set out jam and glitter because I knew the fairies would be hungry. A child’s imagination is never-ending and we should carry that part of our childish self with us as we get older. We should still have that never-ending imagination. We can accomplish whatever we put our minds to. If you want something bad enough then you should do whatever it takes to get it. You are your biggest motivator.
Be confident with everything you do. Confidence is so important. I find myself lacking it sometimes too but then I remember there is no one like me in the world, and there is no one like you. How awesome is that? We are all so perfectly imperfect. Speak up, don’t be afraid to say what’s on your mind. There is nothing to lose when it comes to asking for what you want. That fear of rejection you may have is like the fear of the monster under your bed, it’s all in your head! Take your self-criticism and throw it in the trash because that is your greatest demise. Be spontaneous and take risks. It can be exciting and unpredictable!
Start focusing on your future. Your mind body and soul are your best attributes. Skip that party and study for your test because there are going to be many more parties and only a few more tests. Your grades set a foundation for your future. Another key to a successful future is to let go and stop worrying about your past. Whatever is bothering you, accept it and move on from it because it is only hurting you. You’ve made mistakes, and guess what? You’re going to keep making them. It’s a learning experience. Use your learning experiences to help out others. Once you’ve become the best version of yourself you then help motivate others to fulfill their potential.
You only have one life, don’t be scared of it. Take it all in and create a life you’re proud of, it’s never too late to change that. Be kind to strangers, and ride that rollercoaster you’ve been terrified of riding since you were 9 years old. Make a list of things you want to accomplish, and speak up. We’re all just people trying to figure out ourselves. Last but not least, love yourself. Think of all the amazing things you are capable of and DO THEM.
