Valentine’s Day always seems to be a bit of a touchy subject and when the time comes around most people don’t quite know what to do with themselves. If you are single, it is a day where you have constant reminders left and right, not letting you forget how single you really are. If you are dating someone, it is a day where most girls expect more gestures oflove from their boyfriends. Whether that be he takes her out to a nice dinner or a dozen roses on her door step with an overpriced teddy bear and a yummy box of chocolates, it is a day where love is “expected.” And for the average college guy, it is a day where he spends next to all the money he doesn’t have just to try to make her girl feel important and loved.

It is a day full of chaos, love, and lots of calories. Whether you're looking forward to this Valentine’s Day or not, here are 4 things to be thankful for this February 14th.

You woke up today!

As silly as it sounds, this is something to be extremely thankful for and often we take this for granted. But you know today is already great because God woke you up this morning. He is giving you the perfect opportunity to make this a great day!

The 3 C’s.

Chocolate, candy, calories. And lots of it! Today is a perfect day to make excuses for eating chocolate that taste way too delicious to miss out on. It is a day where stores have stocked rows and rows of candy in heart shapes and sweet notes printed on them that will make your heart flutter as you bite into the sugar loaded goodness. And whether you are single or not, today is a great day to eat up all those calories. The gym will still be here tomorrow…but enjoy the candy and chocolate today! It will be worth the calories.

The all too cheesy movies.

You can always count on great rom-coms showing on TV all throughout the days leading up to Valentine’s Day. The feel good, funny movies that will have you on the floor laughing at one minute and curled up under the blanket, crying at the next. So take a seat on the couch and find a good one on TV.

You know what love feels like.

You may not have a “lover” this Valentine’s day, but that doesn’t mean you aren’t loved or know love. You have a family who you are surrounded by who loves you dearly. And whether it is you biological family, friends, or sorority sisters, you have people who have poured love out onto you. Along with the man upstairs. You are loved deeply. And because of our amazing God, you are given the ability to love in return. Pour love out onto someone today.

Be thankful for today! It is just another day, except filled with a bit more “outerly” love. And you know that’s okay! Sometimes we need days that love is in the air, reminding people that there’s still love and happiness out there. When you wake up this Valentine’s Day, choose to make it a good day. You can make it what you want…So make it a good one!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
