The other day could have been my last day and I didn't realize it until I looked back on that moment as a memory.
My boyfriend and I were driving down a dirt road. It was a rainy and gloomy day. We crept out to the intersection so we could see the oncoming traffic. A red car was speeding past us on the intersecting road. He hit the wet gravel and lost control and sped towards us at an upwards of sixty miles an hour. Thankful the car swerved around us, but consequently, he flew into the ditch and hit a tree head on.
We looked at each other in awe, wondering how we weren't dead, then we snapped back to reality realizing the other man was in the ditch. I jumped from the car to find the man completely fine. I thought to myself how and then I remembered the amazing love and care God has for His children. He placed a guardian angel between us and the car. He also spared the life of the man who hit the tree. God isn't done with us yet. I thank Him every day for Jake and I's safety. It could have been our last day, but He has more planned for us.
That moment lasted about thirty seconds in all, but a lot could have changed in that short amount of time. Three lives could have been lost or critically injured that day. That could have been my last day on this Earth. Would I have been satisfied with the life I had lived up to that moment? Would everyone I love know it? After that moment, every moment became more special. I know it's cliche, but it is true. Once you realize that this life is temporary, the moments that make up your life become important, both the small and the great ones.
So, I am thankful for the memory I had with Jake. It was scary but it made us appreciate each other and the others in our life much more than we would have before. It was a necessary scare that allowed us to love our loved ones more deeply and grow closer to God. What more could you ask for as a couple? God is good all the time and all the time God is good. No matter the outcome of that day, He has a sovereign plan and we can still be a hand in it.
Sometimes you have to see how much you might lose to appreacite what you do have.
