One of the scariest parts about graduating college is facing the adult world, a realm that requires you to start taking on new responsibilities. One of those responsibilities is paying for bills which include rent, utilities, and car payments. And if you are one of those unlucky students like me who is having to take out loans, prepare to pay off that debt as well. But what is require of being able to pay bills is learning how to spend your money wisely, a lesson that doesn't always come easy for some people.
The problem for some people is they develop a bad habit for blowing through their money with little or no thought on how much money they are spending. Going out shopping and buying new clothes or going out to eat every now and then is not a problem, but happens when it becomes a daily thing? You run in the risk of going bankrupt and not having enough money at a time you desperately need it.
When you have a job and earn money, it is very easy to give into the instinct of simply spending it just because it's there. You may run out to a fast food restaurant even when you have food at your house, you may have a shopping trip for clothes, and when you have friends, it may be common occurrence to go out to eat. This may be fun, it can get really expensive really fast, and next thing you know, you check your account balance to find out you barely have enough money for gas.
As an adult, it is very crucial to budget yourself and be smart with your money, especially when you are no longer living with your parents. In an era where the cost of living is constantly increasing with no sign of slowing down, it is hard not to stress the importance of what it means to be frugal with money.
