Be Old-Fashioned, Be You

Be a gentlemen and open the door for your girl, don't let being old-fashioned die.

In today's generation you walk around and see a couple get into a car. You see the man hop in the driver's side and his girl go into the passenger side. What is wrong with this picture?

Me personally, I think he should have opened the door for her. Its not just common courtesy, but shows respect to you're girl. Its like this respectful obligation to be a Gentlemen died away to never be found again. Its as if men have become more like teenagers and less like Gentlemen.

There is nothing wrong with opening the door for you're girl, surprising her with random date nights and what not. Its as if all of this has faded away and just become a figment of their imagination. Today, there are fewer and fewer gentlemen out there who do these these things. Its like a fad, slowly becoming non-existent.

Is it the thought that others called you whipped? The thought of this for men may scare them, they don't want to be known as being whipped. They want to be known as a man, so they become less and less of a gentlemen to keep there manly persona.

The gentlemen must have respect for himself. Once he has got a firm grasp on this then he can turn to give respect to his woman and others around him. The lack of doing these simple things for you're woman has me sickened and confused. It really shows that you lack the respect to even show a little consideration to be a man and do these little things. These show no matter what, you are there for her, you respect her and would do anything to be there for her. It doesn't mean you are whipped! It shows that you are more of a man than the one behind you who does the opposite of this!

Take her on random adventurous trips, go have a picnic, heck go see a movie! Show her you are always there and you care. Don't think she doesn't notice these either, the littlest things like this can really make her whole day. Hold her hand, show everyone you aren't afraid to show your girl off. Let her be you're number one priority. Don't be afraid to make her smile, just be yourself and she'll love you regardless.

Don't let being Old Fashioned become non-existent. Open that door, take her on a date, do the little things and don't worry what others think of it. It's you're life, not theirs. Make every moment count and keep you're girl happy. If she's happy, I know you are too. Men, bring back being old-fashioned, its the least you could do for the one you love.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs.
