Waking up, going to work, coming home, sleeping, repeat — it can be boring. Many people are stuck doing this and don't feel a purpose to life. Being spontaneous gives you purpose and excitement. You don't have to do the craziest thing that comes to your mind to be spontaneous. It just means you may be a bit more impulsive and do something without much thought.
Of course, you want to make sure you don't do anything that would put yourself or others in danger or would have a negative effect on your life, but it can be good to step outside of your comfort zone. This can be anything from trying that new workout class you've been wanting to do, ordering a new dish at your favorite restaurant, or traveling to a new place.
Being spontaneous can be extremely good for your mental health.
For me, getting out of my comfort zone helps make me stronger and conquer my anxiety. Having anxiety can sometimes make you feel trapped, but stepping out of your comfort zone can help you feel free. Traveling is especially freeing for me, and I often plan my trips with such short notice. If I decide I want to go somewhere, I make it happen. This can also help alleviate stress because being spontaneous teaches you that you don't have to stick to such a strict schedule. You're more willing to go with the flow and not feel pressured by timelines.
Some people like to use the excuse that they're too busy to add things to their schedule. These are the people that need spontaneity the most! Coming from someone who works full time, attends school full time, and is involved with volunteering and other activities, you are never too busy to make time for yourself. Even just finding a little time each week will make a noticeable impact.
It's so important to not get sucked into a boring routine in life, and being spontaneous is a great way to spice things up. You don't have to go skydiving or spend lots of money on a crazy vacation to switch things up. Just changing little things in your day-to-day life will make a huge difference.
