Some of us would totally like to be like Jeremy Heere and buy a Squip on the Black Market...

I Read a Book For Fun In College and It Helped Me 'Be More Chill'

Jeremy Heere and Michael Mell, the "so-called" biggest dorks in school. Jeremy is a 16-year-old Sophomore in high school with his best buddy Michael. All he dreams about is gaining the attention of his crush Christine Canigula. He receives help from another guy that used to be a loser until he bought a S.Q.U.I.P. This Super Quantum Unit Intel Processor is a grey oblong pill that is supposed to teach you to be super chill and cool.

Well, I didn't swallow a secret Japanese grey pill. I read the novel by Ned Vizzini instead. Back in high school, I had already become pretty much obsessed with the musical adaptation by Joe Iconis that premiered in 2015. I might have been a few years late to hop on the band-wagon. (Oops!)

Everything from the novel and the musical adaptation seemed so crazy, but also so relatable. Many of us wouldn't mind becoming cooler, but I don't know how many of us would go the lengths to take a creepy pill that talks to you in your head...yikes.

I started college back in August and my life has been pretty darn busy so far. I was 'chilling' out in my school's library one day, and my eyes had just naturally glided over the Current Literature section. I couldn't help myself, I walked over and started my very picky hunt for a novel to read even though I probably wouldn't have time to read it. There it was. 'Be More Chill' by Ned Vizzini was standing so perfectly between other books on the shelf. I knew right then and there that I needed to read this book. Determination was coursing through my blood. I was going to do what others before me had failed to do. I was going to read for fun in college. Guess what.. I was successful in my endeavor.

Reading this novel actually forced me to take a break from all of the mentally exhausting assignments I had to do, lay down my phone and just be more chill for a while at a time.

Since then, reading has helped me slow down when I feel like everything is moving too fast and course work is too stressful at the time. Mental health is important!

I recommend reading to take a break and 'Be More Chill'

Blair Waldorf Quote
"DESTINY IS FOR LOSERS. IT'S JUST A STUPID EXCUSE TO WAIT FOR THINGS TO HAPPEN INSTEAD OF MAKING THEM HAPPEN." - BLAIR WALDORF.

The world stopped in 2012 when our beloved show "Gossip Girl" ended. For six straight years, we would all tune in every Monday at 9:00 p.m. to see Upper Eastside royalty in the form of a Burberry headband clad Blair Waldorf. Blair was the big sister that we all loved to hate. How could we ever forget the epic showdowns between her and her frenemy Serena Van Der Woodsen? Or the time she banished Georgina Sparks to a Christian summer camp? How about that time when she and her girls took down Bart Bass? Blair is life. She's taught us how to dress, how to be ambitious, and most importantly, how to throw the perfect shade.

too tired to care

We've all been there. From move-in day to the first finals week in college, your first term is an adventure from start to finish. In honor of college decisions coming out recently, I want to recap some of the most common experiences college freshmen experience.

1. The awkward hellos on move-in day.

You're moving your stuff onto your floor, and you will encounter people you don't know yet in the hallway. They live on your floor, so you'll awkwardly smile and maybe introduce yourself. As you walk away, you will wonder if they will ever speak to you again, but don't worry, there's a good chance that you will make some great friends on your floor!

Dear High School Friend Group,

My sweet angels, where would I be without you guys. We all grew up together because we either met in middle school or high school and watched each other grow up and get "old." We got to go to prom together and then graduate together. Then watched each other as we continued our lives in college, joining sororities and meeting people who will impact our lives forever. It all has happened so fast.
