Hello faithful readers, Mom and a few teachers from my elementary school,
Before I begin, I want to acknowledge that I'll be pausing my Talking About Mental Illness series until school begins in the fall. I want to put my full effort and attention into both the learning and writing process for those sorts of articles, and this summer is turning out to be a lot more hectic that I originally planned. That being said, the series is not over, and I'm still looking for personal testimonies and advice.
Secondly, after I receive feedback from this article I will decide whether or not to keep up with "Big Brother" via my Odyssey articles.
Okay, let's just get down to business. (If you have no clue what BB is, click here). My first BONE to pick with the producers of BB this season is in regards to the first house guest evicted this summer: Glenn.
Now, Glenn was not like the other house guests. Destined to be the Donny from BB16 of his season, Glenn did not fit in with the other house guests because of his age and appearance. Riddle me this, readers: in today's society, sex sells. We all know it. It seems we've all accepted it, so when the first evicted house guest of the season was Glenn, no one really shed a tear. I'm not sure how this is fair, considering there are already 15 other hot singles to objectify in the cast. The competition that sealed Glenn's fate was a physical challenge against which he battled three young, fit, 20-somethings. It seems like this was just a little too convenient for BB's viewing stats. Why take the outcast out? Making Big Brother Great Again? No, that doesn't sound right...
Moving forward, this season has four veterans: Nicole (BB16), James and Da'Vonne (BB17), and Frank (BB14). Each of the veterans is on a team with at most three other house guests, all Newbies to the game. While a team-aspect is not a new twist from Big Brother, I am interested in seeing how the loyalty between teams will take priority over the loyalty to an alliance, or maybe vice versa. Also, the Road Kill competition? Hell yeah.
Finally, if you're ever wondering how NOT to play the BB game, refer to lovely Jozea's few minutes of fame in the house. Technically the second house guest evicted, Jozea was a lot of talk, conspiring with some shady and flaky people to get HOH Nicole out of the house. But, Nicole was literally HOH and those shady and flaky people were first in line at her door! So of course Jozea was put on the block as the number one target. Did this change Jozea's tune? No. He continually believed and preached that he was the messiah of the Newbies. Really, Jozea? Because it looks like their messiah was just crucified.
