Batman V. Superman: The Ultimate Match Up

The Bat of Gotham or the Son of Krypton

Batman V. Superman: The Ultimate Match Up

Anyone who is a true fan of superhero movies (Marvel fanboys they don't count) has to be super excited for the new Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice that comes out March 25. It is the battle we have all been waiting for. The Avengers was a great movie and there is arguments about who could beat who within the team, but those arguments pale in comparison to the Batman v. Superman argument. Would the son of Krypton pulverize the costumed vigilante, or would the dark night of Gotham have his way with the man who wears (or used to wear) red underwear outside his suit. In light of a recently released trailer which you can watch here, let us take an honest look at this match up between the "Son of Krypton" and the "Bat of Gotham."

To best approach this in a nonbiased way, and to keep the Batman fanboys honest, we will not be looking at franchise success or anything like that. We will only be looking at their basic powers from comic book evidence, and pull slightly from movies.

1. The Bat

Batman is one of the most iconic superheroes ever. This masked vigilante of Gotham has soared in popularity and power. With the unending bank account of Bruce Wayne to buy expensive bat-suits, bat-mobiles, bat-planes, bat-copters, bat-boats, bat-shark repellent, bat-phones, and many other bat-named objects. This is just one of the resources that people on "Team Batman" use to back up their claim that Batman would defeat Superman. Here is a break-down of his abilities:

Strengths: Almost unlimited resources, master of martial arts, world class detective, quick in body and mind

Weaknesses: He is human and therefore not invincible, being reminded about his parents death

2. The Alien

Superman is credited with being the first modern superhero. His dedication to truth, justice, and the American way is unparalleled by any other hero in the DC universe. Powered by Earth's young yellow sun, Superman's Kyptonian DNA absorbs the sun's radiation and he becomes faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, able to leap tall buildings in a single bound, and much, much more.

Strengths: Practical invincibility, super strength, super speed, flying ability, an immovable will to do what is right and just

Weaknesses: Kyptonite

The Winner

Let me be honest Superman would win. We all know it. No amount of technology or foresight on Batman's part can really stand up to a super powered punch to the face. Luckily for all the upset Batman fanboys with their unrealistic faith in a fictional character this will never happen. Superman and Batman are destined to be friends and team up to save the universe again and again. That is something we can all agree on.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
