This past Saturday, I had the pleasure of attending MY first ever Comic Con--New York City Comic Con to be exact. That's right, I went to the largest comic convention on the east coast. Growing up, I've wanted to attend past NYCC's but never had the chance to and eventually I grew out of wanting to go, that is until my brother started attending the last three comic cons. This year when tickets went on sale, he purchased four Saturday passes in the hopes that I would go with him, and when my schedule freed up, I didn't pass on the opportunity to go.

After waking up at 2:00 PM on Friday (I work the night shift at my job so I work 7:00 PM until 7:30 AM), I did a few last minute errands to my costume, which consisted of finding a red, white and blue hair bow and some makeup for my grease riddled nose, I found what I needed to purchase and then headed home in time to go to work. After my shift ended at 7:30 AM on Saturday morning, I headed straight home to start showering and getting myself ready. With my preparation taking roughly about 2 hours, I was finally finished straightening my hair and applying my hair bow, and contouring and highlighting to the gods, I got into my costume and my brother, his friend Aaron and I were on our way to the train station to catch the 10:45 AM train into New York City.
Finally pulling into Penn Station, we marched (ok more like walked) towards the Jacob Javits Center which is about a good twenty minute walk. After exiting Penn Station, we passed Madison Square Garden where we saw a HUGE group of people basically chasing down a black SUV with black tinted windows, only to find out that the person inside that car was Matt Damion.
Once setting my eyes on the huge crowd and the quick moving line, I got pretty excited but the best was when someone stopped my group for a photo of us (my brother and Aaron were dressed up as characters from a video game while I dressed up as Captain America). After my quick photo op, we got on the line and in the doors within only five minutes.

Being so excited to be at my first Comic Con, I spotted the Funko booth like you'd spot your favorite item on sale at the mall. If you don't know who Funko is, it's the company that come out with our beloved POP! Figurines, which I also happen to collect. I separated from my group to go in search of my beloved POP! Vinyl Figurines but once I saw what "exclusives" they were offering, I was no longer interested (and to be honest, Hot Topic had some NYCC figurines for sale in store for a fraction of what you'd pay at the convention) and then went rogue. I went exploring on my own around the convention floor while my brother and his friends did whatever they wanted. While roaming around all the booths, I found nothing I really wanted because most of it all was unneeded junk, except when I laid my eyes on a hot pink wig, but again, nothing I really needed, but I did come across the exact replicas from the movie "Suicide Squad" to which I wanted to walk off with Harley Quinn's "Goodnight" bat but I restrained myself from doing so.

(lovely isn't it?)

I aimlessly walked around for a good 3 hours and then decided to get some pictures of everyone in their costumes. While walking around, I ran into some Ghost Hosts:

which were absolutely adorable!

After finishing my initial walk around the convention floor, my brother and I met back up and walked around together, but because it was getting so overwhelmingly hot from everyones body heat, I became so uncomfortable in my costume that it was basically hard to breathe. My brother and I then decided to go down to the first floor where we can try to find a bathroom so that I can change out of my costume and into my backup costume. After waiting in line for what seemed like forever, I finally was able to change into my Stormtrooper Dress. Once I stepped out from the bathroom feeling so much better, my brother decided to let me know that I missed the Star Wars Imperial March. The look on my face was of pure heartbreak, but it wasn't just any Imperial march, it was the official Imperial March with members of the 501st Legion! It absolutely made a huge part of my day because I love Star Wars and I've been following the 501st for awhile and finally getting to see them in person, just made everything more awesome.

After getting my group photo of the 501st, I ducked back inside, ready to continue on our way, but not without getting a photo with my boss, Kylo Ren:

and being the Star Wars fan that I am, THAT was a huge deal for me. The costumes were beyond detailed down to every stitch and I give them alot of props for the time and effort that's put into each costume, and that duel lightsaber is so much more kick ass in person. Moving on, we decide to start walking around. After my photo op with my beloved Kylo Ren, not even 5 feet ahead of me were the most wonderful sisters to ever walk this earth; it was The Sanderson Sisters!!! Yes, the Sanderson Sisters (minus Mary) from everyone's beloved Disney movie, "Hocus Pocus":

Yep, I lit that black flame candle ya'll. Again, DETAILS! The costumes were totally spot on and even looking back, Winifred looked just like Bette Midler! After the sisters, we FINALLY started moving foward. Not knowing where this level goes off to, we decided to walk the entire bottom half, which led us to Artist Alley. Artist Alley is a decent sized hall where all these different artists set up shop with their prints, artworks, comics, books, coloring books and some even do commissions right there (for a hefty price, usually $100.00+). As we were walking into Artist Alley, not only did we run into Peg Bundy (from "Married With Children" a staple that I grew up watching), but we ran into everyone's beloved housekeeper:

EHH MISTER SUPERMAN UPSTAIRS! and yes, that is a can of lemon pledge! If you're a fan of "Family Guy" then you know who this is, but for those that don't know, it's Consuela!!!! Being that my brother and I are fans of the show, getting to meet Consulea was hilarious but she couldn't do the voice, which is okay because my brother provided the voice of Consulea for me.
Finally walking into Artist Alley, my brother left me to my own devices while he went to catch up with friends. I walked around looking at all the prints for sale and eventually setting my eyes on a Hamilton print that the girl in front of me was carrying. Did I want to snatch it? of course, but instead I checked every single table (which were about 100+ tables) until I found it. I resisted buying myself a print but picked one up for my friends birthday instead. After making my first purchase of the day, I kept walking around seeing what Artist Alley had to offer. I ran into Billy Martin from the band Good Charlotte and got a handshake and then I stumbled upon a table of an artist who just so happened to be the co-creator of the beloved 90's television show, "Ren and Stimpy":

Its none other than Bob Camp!! We can all thank him for our childhood and growing up with Ren and Stimpy and I even overheard him telling someone that the co-creator of "Rocco's Modern Life" is his neighbor! After meeting Bob Camp, I ran right into two girls dressed as the Schuyler Sisters from Hamilton!

werk it girls!

To spare you the rest of the details about the entire convention because it really just consisted of walking around aimlessly for hours, I did get to meet Hello Kitty:

Dogpool:

Rey and BB-8:

and my beloved anti-superhero, Wade Wilson aka Deadpool:

If you don't get the whole "Looking for Francis" bit, then just sit and watch the movie with Ryan Reynolds or if you got plenty of time on your hands, then read the comic book.

All in all, it was a very hectic and exhausting day for me. I left out alot of not so positive details that happened, including someone breaking my Captain America shield. Would I do this again? I would really have to highly consider going next year and not dress up. If I do dress up again, I'd have to do something super comfortable, such as going in a Unicorn onesie, which I may or may not own. But after being awake for over 24 hours, 1 bottle of water and 4 finger sandwiches later, it was pretty much worth the $55.00 day ticket; and I picked up a few "Gilmore Girls" items that made my day.

New York City Comic Con 2016 is officially in the books. See ya next year!
(Also, just a side note, yes there were ALOT of panels, no I didn't get to attend any of them as they were either at Madison Square Garden or Hammerstein Ballroom, and yes there were famous people there for private photo ops and autograph signings and no I didn't get to attend because you had to pay upwards of $100.00+ just to see them.)

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
