How To Be Basic This Fall

What is basic? It’s a question many of us sit and ponder on. Well, if you are really pondering the answer to this you are probably, in fact, basic. My personal definition of basic would be one who is, overall lacking originality, has disproportionate excitement for ordinary things, and performs actions that are typical of other individuals classified as basic.

Fall is the perfect season to let your inner basic diva out! I know I am, and I’m embracing it. So how can you do it?

1. Pumpkin Spice Latte

They’re finally back, and it’s time to drink as many as you can. Plus, a Starbucks cup can always match your outfit.

2. Pumpkin Beer

Why not alcohol?

3. Buy anything that says pumpkin spice

It's the only time to do this, and you must stock up.

4. Uggs

Haters gonna hate, but they’re so comfy. It doesn’t hurt how warm they are.

5. Riding Boots

Comfy, cute, and they go with everything.

6. Infinite Scarves

Go buy one in every color and pattern, and then wear them with every sweater.

7. Oversized Sweaters

So comfy, and they look great with a PSL in hand.

8. Boot Socks

Everyone needs a great pair of socks to go with their boots.

9. Leggings

Who wants to wear jeans during the fall and winter? Leggings go with everything, and they allow you to gain your winter weight. Doesn't hurt that they make your butt look great.

10. Pumpkin Patches

Here is the perfect chance to take an Instagram. Make it look like you were conveniently just searching for the perfect pumpkin, and make sure to get a picture with it. Bonus points if you’re wearing an infinite scarf, oversized sweater, and riding boots.

11. Pumpkin Carving

Take that pumpkin you searched for all day at the pumpkin patch, and carve it into a master piece. Try a cat, witch, or just a jack-o-lantern face.

12. Apple Picking

It’s the next alternative to going to a pumpkin patch. With apple picking, you get the chance to make the perfect apple pie with the apples you picked yourself!

13. Fall Candles

Get a scent like pumpkin spice, apple pie, or autumn walk. It will make your room just scream fall.

14. Flannels

Not really buying them for the warmth, but more so because you just look good in it.

15. Vests

Get one in every style, and add a monogram if you can. They’ll look great with all outfit choices, and will keep you a little warmer.

16. Northface/Patagonia Fleece Jackets

Bonus points if you and all your friends wear them at the same time and then go get PSLs.

17. Bonfires

Find the perfect chilly night, and buy the ingredients for S’mores. Make sure to Instagram it though.

18. Group Halloween Costumes

Make sure to find a group of girls who are just as basic as you, and coordinate your outfits to match.

Go as loofa's, cops, or just put on some animal ears!

On a serious note, I'll be basic all fall, and I can't wait to sport my Starbucks cup to class while wearing my vest, flannel, and riding boots. If people are going to call you 'basic', embrace it. I've learned you just have to laugh at yourself, and ignore the haters. Ya know, haters gonna hate, you just gotta shake it off. Do you, boo.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
