I May Have A Basic Tattoo, But Its Meaning Matters

My "basic" wave on my ankle has a different story

I have wanted a cute small tattoo on my ankle since I was 16. Before my spring break senior year, my mom mentioned that if I wanted to get a tattoo over break, she would get a matching one. This sent me on a mad search for a cute tattoo that would be relevant to both my mom and I. I finally found one-a cute wave on my ankle. If you look up "wave ankle tattoo" on Google, hundreds of tattoos show up. I wanted mine to be a little different, so these two combined is what we went with:

Now for the meaning

I grew up in St. Clair Shores, Michigan, which is right on Lake St. Clair. Growing up, I spent my summers swimming in Higgins Lake. When I was 6, I moved to Naples, Florida. I went from the clear, freshwater of Northern Michigan to the sandy, saltwater of Southwestern Florida. The Naples area is home to some of the best beaches in Florida, so my family took advantage of that and spent many days at the beach. A few years later, we moved back to Michigan. This time, we were in my favorite place: Higgins Lake. As soon as Memorial Day hit, you couldn't get me out of the water. I spent HOURS in that lake. So, during Spring Break, I found myself back in my old stomping grounds: Florida. My mom and I got our tattoos done right in Fort Myers Beach.

It's not a coincidence

I have been surrounded by water my whole life. My best memories have been in a bikini. Sometimes, my problems can be solved by running off the dock with my dog, who LOVES the water. So, I felt it was necessary for a simple wave to be my first tattoo. No matter how "basic" your tattoo may be, the meaning is what makes it important to you.
