It’s that time of year again in which the basic b*tches get even more basic as they flood all social media accounts with crunching leaves, cozy sweaters and, of course, fall Starbucks drinks.
You’re bound to see posts of most of the following, made by your basic friends on various platforms of social media…
1. The classic landscape of the color-changing leaves
Yes, fall is a beautiful time of year, so why not share the beauty with everyone? The leaves are changing from shades of green to yellows, oranges and reds, and it truly is a glorious sight.
2. PSL (Pumpkin Spice Latte)
This much-anticipated drink emerges every fall, and people go nuts about it. It’s the trademark and accessory of “white girls” during the season, and you bet they’re going to Instagram, Snapchat and tweet about it.
3. Selfie wearing a cozy sweater
The typical selfie of a girl wearing her favorite oversized sweater and expressing her love that it’s chilly enough outside to be able to wear it.
4. Boots in a pile of leaves
A bird's-eye view picture of cute, fashionable boots with brightly colored leaves surrounding them is a must. This picture is usually captioned with something about playing in the leaves and listening to them crunch.
5. Pumpkin patch photo shoot
Quite possibly a personal favorite of mine, the pumpkin patch photo shoot is almost inevitable when a group of friends pays a visit to their local pumpkin patch because everyone needs a new, fall-inspired profile pic for Facebook.
6. Football season spirit
Who doesn’t love flaunting their hometown team spirit by wearing some famous player's jersey and posting it on Instagram? Chances are that the basics don’t actually know what’s going on during the game, but they love to watch anyway because it’s a "fall thing to do."
7. Local haunted houses
This social media post will probably consist of a tweet about the fear she has while walking through a haunted corn maze or a haunted house this Halloween season. She might even make a Snapchat story showcasing her and her friends' screams as things pop out at them.
8. Apple-picking/apple orchard
Yum! Apples are a true delight this fall, and the basics want you to know every apple-related thing they have done. It might be apple-picking, visiting apple orchards, drinking hot apple cider or eating that freshly dipped caramel apple. Regardless, you’ll hear about it one way or another.
9. Halloween costumes with friends
Everyone in the friend group matches or coordinates so that pictures are even more on point. Whether it’s a group of “sexy” crayons or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, there are bound to be endless amounts pictures shared on nearly every social media site come Halloween.
10. Baking pumpkin or apple-flavored treats
Special fall-edition baking mixes can’t be ignored while grocery shopping. Pumpkin or apple-flavored everything fulfill the diets of your basic friends this season.
11. Flannels and how great they are
Flannels are the trademark clothing item of fall and can be found in nearly every “white girl's” wardrobe. You bet they’ll be posting at least a few selfies wearing one.
12. Quote about fall/autumn being amazing
It might go something like this, “Leaves are falling. Autumn is calling." Or, maybe it will be a list of what they love about the season, like, "leaves, hoodies, football games, pumpkins and crisp air."
13. Showing thankfulness around Thanksgiving
These posts will probably overuse the hashtag #thankful so much so that it might become a trending topic due to the basics' emerging thankfulness during the month of November. We get it; you have a lot to be thankful for.
14. The long lines and chaos of Black Friday
What do you expect? Of course there are going to be crowds and long lines. It’s the unofficial holiday made for shopaholics and people who love savings. So, get in line, wait for your half-priced yoga pants like every other basic girl out there and stop complaining via social media.
15. Oh, and let’s not forget about the fall crafts and DIYs
The fall lovers love fall crafts the most during the season. There will be multiple posts of homemade decorations using pumpkins, fall flowers and autumnal colors all over social media as the DIY fall projects begin.
