For The Basic Girls: What Your Shoes Say About You

They say a picture says a thousand words, but I think shoes you wear say so much more

1. Wedges

Fun but casual. You’re totally down for a good time but want to be comfortable while doing so. Wearing these for a nice day on campus or on a night out, lets everyone know that you’re faking it until you make it. Because let’s be real, these are basically just more comfortable heels without the actual heel part.

2. White Converse

"I like to act like I’ve got my shit together but once they get dirty I start to fall apart." This is the girl who acts like they know what they’re doing. Their life is all planned out but in actuality they have no clue what’s going on. They are very confident though, because once those suckers get dirty, they're still rocking them like they've just come out of the box. They're also pretty adventurous, because it takes a lot to wear your favorite white converse to a muddy tailgate.

3. Crocs

Whether these are paired with socks or not, the girl wearing them totally has her priorities straight. Still trying to channel the mid 2000’s trend, this is definitely the girl that chooses comfort over beauty. She may accompany this choice of footwear with her hair in a bun and little to no makeup, because let’s be real, she didn’t want to wake up earlier to actually try today.

4. Nikes

When someone is wearing these, it’s a good way to disguise the fact that they don’t actually step into the gym all too often, they just want to make everyone think that they do.

5. Tall Boots

One word: Fashionistas. These girls are on top of their game and know exactly what the trends are, whether you believe them or not. They know how to pair the perfect colors to make the best fall ootd (outfit of the days) to post to their instagrams. Paired with the perfect wing and contoured face this girl definitely knows what she’s doing.

6. Birks with socks

The girl who even if it’s cold out, still wants to let the people around her know that she wishes it was warmer or that it was spring break. The modern-day socks with sandals that our parents used to do have now entered into our generation and it’s slightly frightening that we’re practically okay with it. The girls who wear these either really want it to be warmer or just didn’t paint their toes.

7. Birks without socks

Wearing these shoes let’s everyone know that you’re a very casual and relaxed person. You care a little bit more about your appearance, because let’s all notice that your toes are in fact painted and if you’re wearing shorts or capris, your legs are definitely shaved. You definitely enjoy the outdoors and the wind passing over your exposed skin on a warmer day.

8. Sneakers with fuzzy or longer socks

The ultimate form of comfort. Why didn’t people think about pairing fuzzy socks with sneakers sooner? It’s the perfect way to add color to your outfit (or groutfit.) The people who wear this combination totally tried a little bit this morning but didn’t quite get there when putting on their shoes. Because what says comfort and warmth like fuzzy socks and sneakers? But really, don’t expect to see me at the gym later.

9. Heels on a night out

The try-hard, or the freshman who’s looking to meet the “love of their life” at the next frat party. Unless you’re going to a wedding or a very formal social event, those heels should be left in your closet. Wearing these out on a friday night (unless you’re 21 and going to a really nice bar) is going to leave your feet aching and damaged,

10. Flip Flops

This is the girl that literally gives no fucks. These shoes aren’t that supportive and are bound to break at least four times on your walk through campus. But who cares? That girl sure doesn’t.

11. Sperrys

You’re a tough and hardworking person if you wear Sperrys. Because I mean you have to be if you’re going to have to deal with all of those blisters and the length of time it takes to break them in and get them used to the shape of your feet. This also makes you pretty patient and up to date on some of today’s trends, but not all of them because let’s be honest, you don’t have all that much time to keep up with them.

12. Uggs

*Insert joke about Starbucks, leggings and being a “basic white bitch”* Surprisingly enough uggs are actually very comfortable and very warm, but please if you haven’t waterproofed them, don’t wear them outside ever. Unless you’re quickly running to the store or to a friend’s house and no water has the chance of spilling on them.

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
