A recent article in the New York Times stated that Barnes & Noble is in trouble and we need to help.

If you have been in the book community for some time now you might know that not too long ago people were saying that you needed to support your local independently owned bookstores instead of going to Barnes & Noble.

And while it is still of the utmost importance to support your local booksellers, Barnes & Noble is now in need of your help as well. Nook and online sales have declined and many stores have had to close their doors, and more closures are sure to happen.

Barnes & Noble is a major asset to the book-sellers community but it is now being overtaken by sites such as Amazon. There are now few rules that put restrictions on monopolies and because of this Amazon is able to mark books at deceptively low prices which ends up hurting the book industry as a whole and making it a hard field to get into.

Barnes & Noble is the face of the book industry in a way and if it were to go under it would cause some major damage to the book industry as a whole.

This is just a summary of the event mentioned in the NY Times article and I highly suggested you read that for more in-depth information. I simply wanted to provide a quick summary for people to read and to ask you to please support your local Barnes & Noble and keep the book world alive and thriving.

The loss of Barnes & Noble stores around the country would be detrimental to the book industry. We need books. We need Barnes & Noble.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
