Barbra Streisand and her sweet pup Samantha were the best of friends for fourteen years. Streisand took Samantha with her everywhere she went: 4th of July boat parties, photo shoots, and fun days on the town. When Samantha passed away in 2017, Streisand remembered the cell swabs she had taken from her beloved pooch’s mouth and stomach months before.
So Barbara Streisand did what any normal woman in mourning would do.
She cloned her dog.
Twice.
Streisand is now the happy owner of two perfect clones of her late pet Sammie, Miss Violet and Miss Scarlet, as well as a distant cousin of Sammie that looks a lot like the other two pups. Unfortunately, though, the three dogs do not have similar personalities to Sammie’s, but Streisand is hopeful that they will become more like her as they grow older.
Cloning your pet is no cheap feat, though. Viagen Pets, based out of Cedar Park, Texas, charges $50,000 to clone dogs and $25,000 to clone cats. This is most likely what Streisand paid to clone Sammie, and since she cloned her TWICE, it probably cost about $100,000. So if you’re thinking about cloning your animal in the future, you might want to start saving up.
