15 Reasons Why You Should Stay In Champaign For The Summer

15 Reasons Why You Should Stay In Champaign For The Summer

1. You’ll continue to go to your favorite bars

You may not have all of your friends from the school year, but at least you have Red Lion, Kam’s, and Joe’s to fix that.

2. Senior Land

As soon as summer begins, we need a place to live. For those of you that are sophomores, you're forced to move out of the house and sublease from either graduating seniors or friends that live out of the house. What better place than Senior Land?

3. Summer classes are a lot more chill

Whether you’re taking classes at UIUC or Parkland, it always seems like teachers are more helpful during the summer because of the size of your classes.

4. Greek Reunion

Greek Reunion is the best weekend of the summer by far. If you’ve been working a summer internship outside of Champaign, then it’s something you’ve been looking forward to all this time.

5. Lofts hot tub

With everyone subleasing from one another, it’s pretty easy to find out that one of your friends staying at Lofts 54.

6. 309 Pool

It’s almost impossible to not know anyone staying at 309, considering its 24 floors of residents staying the summer.

7. Roland Pool

Best pool on campus.

8. Fourth of July at Roland Pool

Barbecuing, beer, and burgers make this one of the best weekends in Champaign if you couldn’t get back to Chicago to celebrate. Not to mention the copious amount of Red, White, and Blue.

9. Everyone drinks every day.

What else are we supposed to do?

10. Summer Crew

You always have friends that are down to hit the ARC, Roland pool, or go out.

11. You don’t have 100 people to shuffle through to get to your tender at the bar

For the first time all year, you are at Red Lion, Kam’s, and Joe’s and you can actually make a lap around the bar without that drunk girl bumping into you and spilling her Cranberry Vodka on your white Brooks Brothers' polo.

12. Internship/Bar Job

Whether you’re working one of the two or both, you pretty much know your sleep schedule for the whole summer. Making money all summer to spend it on drinks isn’t all too bad either.

13. You can take an Amtrak or hitch a ride with one of your friends to get back to Chicago

If it’s going to a music festival such as Spring Awakening, Lollapalooza, or Electric Forest (Michigan), friends are always driving back for a break away from Champaign. Wanted to catch a Cubs or Sox night game during the week? Throw in for gas and get a group together to hit the Bud Light Bleachers.

14. Friends visit you to forget they live at home and work from 9-5

Let’s be honest, living at home with mom and dad after living in the house or with your pledge brothers/sisters isn’t going to be the same.

15. Just do it

an image of taylor swift standing center stage surrounded by her backup dancers in elegant peacock esque outfits with a backdrop of clouds and a box rising above the stage the image captures the vibrant aesthetics and energy of her performance during the lover era of her eras tour

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
