If you were born in the 90's... you know how great it felt when you heard the news that they FINALLY were bringing "Incredibles II" to theatres. As soon as the news was out, everyone was talking about it. The memes were created, there were statuses all over facebook about how 'they couldn't control themselves', and we just all were waiting to find out what freaking powers Jack-Jack had! Once it finally came out on June 15th, 2018 the theatres had a domestic opening of $180 million!!!! That's only for its first weekend..."Incredibles II" is known for the biggest record-breaking Pixar sequel running after "Finding Dory," and I've already seen it twice.
Now the crazy thing that everyone also keeps talking about is the Pixar short they play before the movie starts which is called "Bao." This Pixar film actually brought me to tears. This short is a whimsical story more inspired to mothers. If you have seen the film, you find in the beginning that there is a Chinese lady that is very lonely. She cooks and cleans while her husband is always out because of work, and grows depressed.
This is where one of the random dumplings that she has cooked, turns into a real live 'baby dumpling'. She nurtures this dumpling.. taking it out to the park, going grocery shopping, buying sweet bread, and riding the bus together. She is very protective of her 'baby' and runs at every boo-boo the baby dumpling has as any other fragile toddler would be when having a cut or bruise.
I don't want to necessarily spoil it for everyone that is reading this and hasn't seen it yet (which I don't know what you're doing with yourself if you've waited this long still), but it's a great story of the mother loving and raising her baby, having all the happiness and love in the world because she is no longer lonely, however slowly loses her child as it grows up. Like all kids, they grow into their teenage years and find friends, hobbies, and begin to detach from home and their parents without realizing how hard it is for their parent to let go from seeing every second with them to almost none.
Most times parents aren't every REALLY ready to let go. Allowing their child to move out once they are all grown up and have found a significant other or just want to live 'independently' is almost heartbreaking to experience. Towards the end of this short, the mother has to force her child into never leaving her... and that's when the whole theatre gasps.
Now, I said I wasn't going to spoil the big surprise. But honestly, I had tears streaming down my face. I loved every second of this short film and hope I convinced you all to go watch it because the movie after is AWESOME. Its a great moral and reminds all daughters/sons to remember that their parents love them. Without them, we are nothing. Sometimes we grow up too fast and forget that no matter what a life without parents is almost dreading to try and survive in. Now.... GO WATCH INCREDIBLES II! You'll thank me later.
