Hello, Beatles Jen again.
Are you sick of me talking about the Beatles yet? Good, because it’s now time for me to talk about a band that sounds exactly like the Beatles, only NEW! (This is your chance to get out now, readers, while you still can!).
Well, that’s not entirely true. If I am to be completely honest, this new band, who have really been around since 2012, sound more like a mix of 1968 Beatles (mainly the Lennon stuff), T-Rex, and a little bit of cosmic David Bowie thrown in there for good measure. The long and the short of it, they’re as British as British can come. Don’t believe me? Listen to their first song off their album Sun Structures, Shelter Song.
I know what you’re thinking. Well, I actually don’t, but pretend I do for the purposes of this article. Man, that guy certainly DOES sound like John Lennon. His name’s James Edward Bagshaw, and yes, that probably IS the most British name you’ve heard in awhile. That is, until you hear the bassist’s name (aka the McCartney), Thomas Edward James Walmsley. I really love his tunes, and while he doesn’t exactly articulate, I absolutely adore his voice. The keyboardist/rhythm guitarist (aka their Harrison) is Adam Smith (not the inventor of capitalism, the other one). I find the rhythm guitar particularly excellent here, and is probably my favorite part of the track. Their drummer (the Ringo) is Samuel Toms. The drums are a lot more pronounced in the album than most Beatles tracks, and all the better for it- he’s incredible. Really, I have nothing bad to say at all about these guys. Interestingly enough, the drummer used to be a guy called Jack Prince. I suppose either they replaced him or he left. Now THAT story doesn’t sound familiar at all, does it? Let’s hope that James *Not-Lennon* Bagshaw doesn’t meet and marry Yolo OhNo or someone like that- it’ll be disaster for the band!
Anyway, I highly recommend you check out their whole album, Sun Structures, which can be found on Youtube or Spotify.
Jen OUT.
