Austin Consigny and Robert Galiarado are two friends from St. Petersburg that make up the Indie-Rock band Harbingers. On March 30, they released their new album Homecoming, which was recorded on an 80-foot yacht that's parked on a harbor in downtown St. Petersburg. The yacht that they recorded their new album on happens to be where Robert lives. Both Consigny and Galiarado enjoyed the experience.
"Recording on a yacht was a lot of fun; in a lot of ways it's much like recording anywhere else," Galiarado said. "You set up your stuff and you create your own spaces for times when you want to take a step back or sit down and think through the music."
Consigny plays electric guitar, bass guitar, the keyboard and sings vocals, while Robert plays the drums. Consignysays that the new album tells their story.
"The whole idea behind it – five songs that tell a story," he said. "Not chronologically but tells the story of Robert and I lives. It talks about the struggles that happen in life, the struggles and the hard times. The homecoming is everything happens for a reason, and it will feel good when all of this is over – we're coming home."
The group started recording the album in December of 2016. Both Consigny and Galiaradowanted to make sure everything about the album was right instead of rushing through the process.
"We spent a little more than a year working on our record, which includes the entire recording, mixing and mastering process," Galiarado said. "Originally, we wanted to try and record everything within three months before Austin had to go back to school, but in the end, we decided not to rush through it and to take our time."
As unconventional as recording on a yacht might seem, Consigny and Galiarado didn't find it too difficult to do.
"It actually was not as hard as you would think, you just have to create a recording area and work with the space you're given," Galiarado said. You have everything you need right there so you don't have to run out to get coffee or go out to eat or anything like that. If we have the opportunity to do it again I think we would."
Consigny and Galiarado's new album can be found on all streaming platforms including Apple Music, Spotify, Tidal, Google Play and Pandora. Outside of recording the album on a yacht, Galiarado feels that getting a chance to work with his best friend is something very special.
"Working with your best friend is one of the most exciting things to do," he said. "We have a very similar style in music and the bands we listen to, which made it easier to work together. We often throw ideas at each other and try to work things out together to come out with a like-minded view of the song. Austin is one of the best people I know and I wouldn't have wanted to do this with anybody else."
