Being in band is not just an extracurricular activity, it is a lifestyle. Every band is different, but most (if not all) bands share many of the same experiences. Here is how you know you’re a Band Geek

1. You went on some awesome trips

From Hawaii to Disneyland, you’ve probably been on some amazing trips with your band family and these trips are some of your best memories. Even though you had to get to the airport at 5 in the morning, it was well worth it. The smaller trips to burger joints also make for a great time.

2. You have a group chat with all of your band friends and it blows up all the time

Waking up to 20 or thirty notifications from your Facebook chat is not all that uncommon. There are some very interesting 3 am conversations and an unspoken rule that what happens in the chat stays in the chat.

3. You can never do anything on Thursday nights during basketball season

Call time is 7 p.m. game starts at 8 done by 10! Even though they cut into dinner and homework time, band would not be the same without the basketball games. The best game of the season is always the game against the rival school. Beat the Zags!

4. You do homework during the games

Because the games are usually during prime homework time, most of the band members can usually be seen with books open whenever they’re not playing. Band is important, but so is school and it is sometimes necessary to combine the two. This being said, trying to get homework done with the crowd cheering in the background is not always the easiest thing to do. You usually find yourself joining in with the crowd and not much work gets done.

5. You love getting new music

You get excited whenever you see your director walk in with a stack of papers because it means you’re about to get a new song. Doesn’t matter what it is, you’ve probably played the same songs a million times and any new addition is welcome. If it’s a song you know, even better, but regardless a new song is always welcome.

6. You love band

Being in band was definitely the best part of high school for me and continuing to be a part of band in college has been one of the best decisions I have made so far. From late night rehearsals to game nights, nothing can trade the experience of being part of such a tight knit group of people who all share a passion for music.

10 Things Only Equestrians Understand

Yes, it IS a sport. Yes, I fall all the time. No, I do not ride in jeans with a cowgirl hat on.

Growing up I have always wanted to own a horse. My grandparents own a well known equestrian facility in Georgia, so I have been riding since I was born. A bond between a person and their horse is a bond so strong that it cannot be broken. Everywhere I went I wanted to be around horses, even forcing my family to go on trail rides during vacations. Horses have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember has taught me great responsibility, as well as 14 things that all equestrians can relate to.

College is super hard. Between working, studying, and having a social life, it feels like a struggle to just keep afloat.

I understand. When you feel like your drowning and there's no way to stay afloat I understand that it feels like everyone else is doing just fine. I understand all the frustration, long nights in the library, and that feeling that you want to just throw in the towel. I understand that sometimes it's too hard to get out of bed because your brain is already filled with too much information to remember. I understand because I am also feeling pretty burnt out.

No Matter How Challenging School Gets, You Have To Put Your Health First — A Degree Won't Mean Anything If You're Dead

Some of the best advice I've ever received was from my social studies teacher in sophomore year of high school. He stated, "If you don't know it at midnight, you're not going to know it for the 8 a.m. exam, so get some sleep."

It's such a simple piece of advice, but it holds so much accuracy and it's something that the majority of college students need to hear and listen to. "All-nighters" are a commonality on college campuses in order to cram in studying for an exam that is typically the next day.

Sometimes my brain just starts turning on an idea and it doesn't want to stop.

I don't know if it is related to my anxiety, perfectionism or depression. I don't know why it happens. It's frustrating, it's painful and it stops me from functioning.
