Banana - Wikipedia

1. Bananas can help ease muscle cramps.

Suffering from exercise or stress related muscle cramps? Eat a banana! These potassium-packed fruits help ease your muscle cramps one delicious banana at a time. This is a more well-known banana remedy, mostly because it seriously does work!

2. The peel of a banana can help whiten teeth.

These wonder-fruits are so packed with potassium that they can actually help whiten your teeth. Choose a banana that is perfectly, beautifully yellow; this is when the potassium levels are at their peak in the fruit. Peel the banana and apply the inside of the skin to your teeth for at least two minutes. If you're doing your makeup, try applying the peel like a mouthguard while you do your makeup. Once you have applied the banana peel for a self-determined sufficient amount of time, remove the peel and brush your teeth to remove the residue. You probably won't see a drastic change right away, but doing this every day or every other day could help make those pearly whites even whiter!

3. The peel can also polish leather shoes.

Ditch your store-bought shoe polish and apply a banana peel to your leather shoes. The amount of potassium in bananas and their peels is incredible, and it actually mimics the potassium found in shoe polish. All you have to do is rub your shoe with the inside of the banana peel and, once you're finished, buff your shoe with a soft cloth.

4. Speaking of polishing, the peel can polish silver too.

Once again, the potassium in the peels of bananas is enough to remove dirt and grime off of a plethora of household objects.

Take two to three banana peels and blend them with a cup of water. Apply the peel-water mixture to the silver with a cloth and then, once finished, wash the mixture off and dry it with a different, cleaner cloth.

5. Bananas are considered a "mood-boosting" fruit.

Bananas contain tryptophan, an amino acid that contributes to the formation of serotonin (a neurotransmitter that improves overall happiness). These curvaceous slices of sunshine also vitamins A, B6, and C, as well as fiber, iron, phosphorous, iron, carbohydrates, and, you guessed it, potassium!

6. A banana peel can soothe itchy bug bites.

This is another one of those banana remedies that you hear about quite often. The peel of the banana is thought to draw fluid out of mosquito bites.

7. Bananas make FANTASTIC ice cream.

If y'all haven't tried banana nice cream (a vegan alternative to dairy ice cream), go to your nearest grocery store and buy at least three bananas. Yes, it has to be three.

Take these three bananas, chop them all up into 0.5 inch pieces, put them in a Ziploc, freezer safe bag, and freeze for 12-24 hours.

Once they're completely frozen, throw them in a blender with a cup of your choice of milk (I recommend soy milk) and blend it all together. Keep adding milk if the blender has problems breaking up the frozen banana pieces. Once everything is blended to an ice cream-like consistency, put it into a bowl, add any desired toppings, and enjoy!

8. Splinters can be easily removed with the help of a banana peel.

Dr. Oz has stated that the natural enzymes in bananas can help remove tricky, unwanted splinters by softening the skin around the splinter. Cover the splinter with the inside of a banana peel and secure in place. Depending on how tricky the splinter is, leave it there for a few hours or overnight. Once you remove the banana peel, the skin around the splinter should be softer and the splinter should come right out!

9. Bruises can also be healed by banana peels.

We all get those unsightly bruises that seemingly arise out of nowhere. An easy, at-home remedy for this common problem is to rub the peel of a banana on the area of bruised skin in order to heal the bruise. If the bruise is particularly nasty, try taping the banana peel to the skin with medical tape overnight. This also works for minor cuts and scrapes!

10. Banana peels can help fix scratched CDs and DVDs.

You pop in your favorite DVD and come to find that the darn thing just won't play smoothly. Don't panic because all is not lost.

Gently rub the entire back of the disk with a banana peel in a circular motion. Wipe off any residue, spray the disk with glass cleaner, and wipe with a clean cloth until the disc looks flawless. Repeat if necessary and enjoy!

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
