Baker's Game Plan Should Be Scoring Touchdowns This Season Not Criticizing Other Teams And Players

Baker Mayfield is his own man, and nobody will change the way he acts and conducts himself. He has a reputation of having a chip on his shoulder and being very confident, sometimes even a little arrogant.

Mayfield made news in criticism of former Brown, Duke Johnson (Johnson has since been traded to the Houston Texans), who was in the middle of negotiating a trade over a dispute over a contract and playing time. It is an unwritten rule in the NFL among players to not talk about another man's money and to support your teammates the best you can while they are in that process. Mayfield was confronted by veterans within the organization to let him know that his actions were not justified.

In a GQ article that was released on August 20, Mayfield was quoted saying "I cannot believe the Giants took Daniel Jones. Blows my mind. Some people overthink it. That's where people go wrong. They forget you've gotta win."

Jones has not taken a single snap in a meaningful game in the NFL. At Duke, Jones never threw a pass to a single player that has since made it to the NFL. Mayfield came from a powerhouse program at Oklahoma, where year after year there are talented players at the skill positions that get drafted into the NFL, a few notable recent players include this year's Heisman Trophy Winner, and number one pick in the NFL draft, Kyler Murray and Marquise Brown who was a first-round selection by the Baltimore Ravens.

It seems strange for Mayfield to be talking so much about winning when yet he has a losing record as a starter in the NFL albeit after just 13 games. Mayfield is just 1-5 against winning teams in his career and threw more interceptions than touchdowns (11 INT to 10 TD) in those games against teams with a winning record. Mayfield's other five wins were against Atlanta who had three of their top four starting cornerbacks injured, a completely depleted Cincinnatti Bengals roster twice, the Carolina Panthers where Cam Newton had a bad throwing shoulder and the team was in the midst of a five-game losing streak which turned into eight consecutive losses by seasons end, and a one-point win over the Denver Broncos lead by journeyman QB Case Keenum.

Baker Mayfield has one career win out of the state of Ohio. Jones has not yet thrown a pass in the regular season of an NFL game. Yes, Jones has a lot to prove as an NFL QB, but so does Mayfield. Mayfield seems to be given a pass by fans and others in the media and within the Browns organization for this behavior, why?

Mayfield did have a promising rookie campaign, even breaking Peyton Manning's rookie touchdown record. But, he is by no means in any position to be criticizing and ripping other organizations and it's players.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs.
