The day after Thanksgiving, it starts. All the radio stations start to play Christmas music. For some people, this is everything they have been waiting for. They can go all month listening to the same 13 songs by a handful of different artists all day, every day until Christmas is officially over. For others, the radio becomes our archenemy. Going to the supermarket, or anywhere public, really, requires headphones, and the car radio is out of commission until further notice. For those of you tired of hearing the same few songs over and over, here are five not-so-conventional Christmas tunes that may tickle your holiday spirit (or lack thereof).
1. Mile High Christmas - Breathe Carolina
This song was released on Fearless Records Christmas album "'Tis The Season To Be Fearless" back in 2010 and tells the tale of a not-so-sober Santa, which makes it good for a few laughs.
2. This Christmas (I'll Burn It To The Ground) - Set It Off
An anti-Christmas anthem from American rock band Set It Off. The video for this song features a scary masked Santa impostor filling stockings with worms and spiders, followed by Christmas presents being set ablaze. It makes a suitable tune for any holiday Grinch.
3. Kidnap The Sandy Klaws - Korn
This cover from Tim Burton's "Nightmare Before Christmas" is a perfect addition to any holiday playlist if your goal is to shake things up a bit. Suitable for children, but it still gets that anti-holiday vibe across.
4. Santa Stole My Girlfriend - The Maine
The title says it all. This original song is written from the woeful point of view of a man who's gold digging girlfriend found Santa more appealing than him. It's funny, a little sad, and way better than listening to "Christmas Shoes."
5. Father Christmas - The Kinks
This song gets some radio play around the holidays, but not nearly as much as it deserves. It's lack of air time is probably because it's about threatening to mug Santa because the children want money instead of toys, but that doesn't make it any less great as a song.
