Why Do Bad Things Happen To Good People?

Proverbs 16:9 "The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps."

“I am honest, loving, and kind. I am good towards others. I go to church. Why do these awful things keep happening to me?”

These are questions asked in innocence by many each and every day.

To be brutally honest, no one really knows why bad things happen to good people.

Maybe it is the way this world works.

Maybe it is a form of good or bad karma that we just can’t quite wrap our minds around and understand.

But the worst part about it is, many people tend to put the blame on the man upstairs.

“If God was real, and the truth behind Him loving all of his children is real, then why does he allow bad things to happen to me?”

“Why would a God who is all-good, all-knowing, and all-powerful allow bad things to happen to good people?”

Because that, my friends, is the way this world was first created.

Tracing back to the whole Adam and Eve story, who both, went against God and his initial command.

I believe that because of it, God now teaches us lessons — whether we like it or not.

I, too, have a strong belief in the fact that life is all about learning, and learning from those lessons that are taught.

So, to the people wondering why bad things happen to good people:

It is a lesson.

It is also something that is preventing you from being a part of something that God does not have planned for you.

“Why did I get a speeding ticket today? That just ruined my entire day!”

Maybe, God wanted you to get a ticket so it would hinder you from being involved in a nearby car accident. Using the time between the cop stopping you and the accident occurring, God saved you from being killed.

“Why didn’t I get that job? I thought the interview went really well!”

Maybe, God didn’t want you to get that job because he has better plans for you — a better job, that you will receive when least expected.

God doesn’t put these bad things in our life for no reason.

There is a deep-rooted reason behind each and everything that happens to us everyday — whether we can actually see it for what it is worth or not.

These years that we have on Earth are a preparation for a far greater life that is yet to come.

It is a difficult concept for many to understand because they have this certainty that God is supposed to fulfill our lives to perfection.

What many need to realize, however, is that there is nothing perfect about you, this world, or myself for that matter — only He Himself can be seen as perfection.

We were never created for intentions of being perfect.

God wants us to be the best version of ourselves — and He has every intention to do so — if we just sit back and let Him.

So stop blaming Him for that ticket you got yesterday, or the break up that you’re currently going through — instead, thank Him.

Thank Him for saving your life from that car accident.

Thank Him for saving you from that draining relationship.

Thank Him for doing what He best believes is right for you.

There is a plan for each and every one of us.

Yes, you may be a good person, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that everything is going to go the way that you want it to or expect it to.

Bad things happen to good people. Good things happen to bad people.

It is just the way it is.

There is no real explanation for it other than the mere fact of knowing that it is indeed, for some certain reason that only He Himself knows.

So, do Him and yourself a favor — let nature take its course and stop blaming Him for the plan He has for you.

Jeremiah 29:11 "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope."

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
