We all have bad habits, whether we like to admit it or not. But sometimes, even though we know something is bad, we do not know exactly why. Below is a list of four of the most common bad habits that may people have with explanations as to why you should leave them behind.
Watching too much TV.
TV watching is quite possibly one of America’s favorite pass times. So much so that we over watch and spend too much time sitting on our butts with our eyes glued to the screen rather than being productive. In a recent study, researchers found that those who watch a lot of TV, three or more hours a day to be specific, double their likelihood of premature death. TV also leads to greater importance on material possessions and less satisfaction in a person’s real life.
Not wearing sunscreen.
While you may be young and free and having fun in the sun, it is extremely important to wear sunscreen. You could have the kind of skin tone that doesn’t burn easily, or if you’re like me, you burn instantly. Either way, you should always put on sunscreen when out in the sun. The impact that not wearing sunscreen has on you may not show up for many years but that doesn’t mean you're safe from the effects. Each time you get sunburnt from too much sun exposure, your skin cells are damaged. Consistent harm will cause wrinkles over time and will cause your skin to bruise easily. These are just the simple harms that are caused by not wearing sunscreen. Years in the future you can develop skin cancer which is currently one of the most common of all cancers.
Not eating breakfast.
People who don’t eat breakfast always have a seemingly reasonable excuse: I don’t have time, I’m not hungry, coffee fills me up. Yet no matter what their excuse may be it is extremely important to eat breakfast. For starters, eating breakfast actually helps you lose weight and can prevent type two diabetes and heart disease. Eating breakfast gives you a healthy energy boost rather than just a sugar rush in the morning. Most importantly, eating breakfast allows you to have a stronger immune system and to fight unnecessary cravings.
Chewing your nails.
Biting and chewing your nails is normally done as a way to relieve stress. It’s actually a very common practice, but is also very unhealthy. First and foremost, you have a lot of germs hanging out under your fingernails that do not belong in your mouth. After a while, this bad habit could cause your nails to be grossly and permanently deformed and can also really mess up your teeth and how they align in your mouth. You gums can swell, warts spread more easily, and your breath smells a whole lot worse when you chew your fingernails. Overall, it is much better for your health to not chew off your nails no matter how much it may relieve your stress.
