13 Ultimate Ways To Get Through The Worst Of The Bad Days

Who knew the number 13 could be lucky after all?

We've all had those days that seem like nothing could possibly get worse. While I may not know all the answers to solving all of the world's problems (and if you do, then please, HMU) but I do have a few of my very own ways that help me survive through those unbearable days.

1. Watch some Netflix

Regardless of your choice, I have found that it always helps me to escape my own reality and lose myself in the problems of some fictional character in another world. No matter our problems, sometimes it’s nice to know that they can’t amount to those of Serena Van Der Woodsen’s or the Riverdale kids (even though if you’re Veronica Lodge and get to kiss Archie Andrews, you should never have another bad day in your life). On the other hand, any bad day can be fixed with some humor from Michael Scott and Dwight Schrute, or Joey Tribbiani.

2. Spend some time with friends

And no, this time, not the Netflix version. Your actual, real-life friends. Going for a drive with your best friends to distract you and get your mind off whatever is upsetting you is the cure for a bad day.

3. Drink a glass of wine

Sorry, mom. Sometimes, a glass of wine and a bubble bath is the perfect remedy for anything. After all, Jesus did turn water into wine. Haha, and can't we all thank Him for that?

4. Exercise

It’s scientifically proven to release endorphins to make you a happier person and comes with a sense of increased confidence too. It's also somewhat nice to be distracted from what's eating at your mind by the pain your feeling while running on the treadmill.

5. Shop

Retail therapy is 100% a real thing. Don’t listen to what the critics might say about it being frowned upon. Splurging on those shoes or earrings you've been eyeing is sure to brighten your mood.

6. Eat GOOD FOOD

And by good, I don’t mean healthy. I mean greasy, fattening, happy, eat your feelings, GOOD FOOD. Treat yourself if it’s a bad day. Life's too short, and I promise you you'll survive.

7. Listen to music

But be careful here, you must pick the right playlist. Instead of listening to sad music to get you down, which is very tempting and easy to get yourself into a pity party, choose a happy playlist to change your mindset and uplift your spirits. The right song can make all the difference.

8. Call your mom

They are ALWAYS on your side, and ALWAYS have your best interest in mind. They are pretty much forced to listen to you, regardless of if they have the time or not. Not to mention they genuinely care about what’s going on in your life, and hands down give the best advice. No one is a better go-to person than mom.

9. Write it down

Maybe you’re not the type to vent and let it all out to friends or your mom. And that’s okay. So in that case, write it down. It’s honestly so therapeutic to write out thoughts, feelings, and emotions. And these can be bad and good, positive and negative. Venting what you are worried or stressed over, or recording what you’re thankful for regularly, are both great life reminders down the road for when your current storm passes.

10. Be productive

If you’re like me, sometimes it can make a bad day worse if you decide to mope in self-pity or put off something you need to do. Accomplishing any task, however big or small, can give you a sense of fulfillment, and in turn, turn your day around.

11. Do good for someone else

You might be surprised at how good it can feel to do something for someone else, even if you feel like you're stuck in the middle of an awful day. Helping someone else and making their day better, can, in turn, make you feel better and improve your day, too.

12. Sleep

When all else fails, a little sleep never hurt anyone. We all could probably use a little bit more anyways. Besides, getting some rest and falling asleep only leads to the start of a new day, and a chance to start over.

13. Pray

Last but not least, pray about it. No one fixes problems or turns them into masterpieces quite like Our God can. He gives us the strength to get through our current struggle, and then to get through the next one, and then the one after that. He'll never leave our side, and He not only sees the light at the end of the tunnel but He sees the paths our lives are taking following the current journey.

* * *

At the end of it all, just remember that every bad day does end, and the chance to have a new, better day is just right around the corner. Keep your head up! At the very least, I hope these tips of mine can help you out too, for when life gets a little crazy sometimes.

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
