This past week has been rough for me, it seems to have been rough for everyone! All of the work and tests seem to have piled all together, and there seems to be no end! I have had been so stressed lately, and this has caused many of my days to turn out to be pretty crappy. Being constantly stressed means I need to be in a good mood more than ever. Here is how I can switch my days around and have a good day, regardless of what happens!
I am not talking about faking it. I am pretty good at switching my mood for my friends or family. I can act like nothing is wrong, but when I am by myself, I know that the day was horrible and I want to sleep it away. This funk is a huge issue in trying to make good grades and be involved.
College is a time in my life where I am constantly, go go go! I feel that it is best to take a break. Even if it is just a few minutes, stop and smell the roses. See how beautiful your campus is. Sometimes even taking a break and cleaning my dorm helps! Just being able to stop and do something that does not require stress or worry is great!
I always take this for granted, but getting a shower and getting all dolled up. If you have friends like mine, then you can go out and have a girl’s night. Just going to get fries or go to the beach, look all cute! I love to pick out a cute outfit and spend some calm time doing my makeup. It really helps me destress and focus on something different.
Along with that, spend time with friends! It is so easy to get way to into what you are doing, but it is really nice to sit back and laugh with your closest friends. Even if this is around campus or off, make plans with someone to force yourself to get out and make some happy memories!
These are just a few tips that help me. Everyone is very different, and these may not work for you. They have just worked for me. It’s always easier said than done, but sometimes it is something you have to do. Self-care is not selfish.
