When faced with change, many of us worry about a regression of the progress we have worked so hard to maintain. However, change should never be something that is destructive but constructive. It should not eliminate progress but produce it. In other words, progress should never be deleted. In response to this fear of regression, here is a short, allegorical poem reflecting on the state of progress.
Backspace
The backspace button is not the same as the delete button.
Backspace is the most frequently used key on the keyboard.
It is not necessarily a negation or elimination of an idea,
But rather a reconstruction of past words--
An opportunity for fortification.
When pressed for time, the backspace button can be seen as a hindrance to progress;
Yet without it, the outcome would never be polished.
Our future does not deserve typos and hastily described details;
It deserves meticulously chosen words, refined explanations, and correct punctuation.
We can never truly erase parts of our story
We can only revise it.
Let us not eradicate the developments of our past.
Let us rewrite the goals of our future.
