The week after spring break is very stressful. During spring break you either caught up with work and feel like you got a lot accomplished or you had a little too much fun and still have a pile of work to do. You feel like a pause button was pressed during spring break, then as soon as you get back, BAM!, the play button is pressed. Spring break cuts the semester in half, which can put quite the stress on a person since they have to get so much done in such a short time frame.

Here are 5 ways that can help you feel like you are not drowning in a pile of work:

1. Plan out the assignments.

Do what is due first. If you have assignments that require more than one day to accomplish, then start on it little by little. Make a list of all the assignments and cross them off as you complete them. It will make you feel better when you see how much you accomplish in a day. Crossing them off the list would hopefully give you an edge to cross everything completely off the list.

2. Put deadlines on yourself.

You have deadlines for your assignments set by your teacher, now put deadlines on yourself. Have your assignments ready the day before it is due. On the day that the assignment is due, you will have it completed and can just easily review it to make sure it is up to the standards you wanted it to be.

3. Have homework parties.

Sometimes getting together with people who are not in the same boat as you can help. Now there are people who can help you answer any questions you have on the assignment. It helps you put together the assignment based on how other people are going about it. They help you, and maybe you can help them with any work they have or just feed them.

4. Allow time for sleep.

Even though you have a lot of assignments to complete, sleeping would allow your brain to function more properly. Being sleep deprived slows the brain down, and you will be left spending more time thinking about what to write rather than just writing. You want to do the assignment rather than spend time just staring at them. Remember a 30-minute nap is more refreshing than 3 hours.

5. Figure out your priorities.

You have friends who are going to want to hang out, but remember that you want all your assignments in while still being able to function. Do one assignment then take a little study break. It doesn't hurt to take a break, but do not procrastinate. I promise you that it will be more fun to hang out with friends without the guilt of due dates hanging over your head.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs.
