Back To SJC

Three weeks and counting.

Back To SJC

It has been a long summer so far to say the least. It has flow by so far but there is something that is keeping me anxious. It has come to that point in the summer where returning to school has become the event that I cling to to keep me motivated. While the summer has been great, there are some things about school that I will be looking forward to.

My friends are the number one thing I miss. Though I don't live far from campus or some of my friends, there is something about being back together again when school begins that hypes me up whenever I think about it. Late night studying, late night talks, endless games of pool, bingo and karaoke, and even the pointless drives where there was no destination, but we did it anyways are all things that I can look forward to again. I have seen some of my friends over the summer but we all agree that there is something about being back together during the actual school year that will just feel right.

The scenery of school is an obvious miss for me. Though it is a small campus with not a whole bunch around, the scenery and the scenes that come along with the seasons changing are always something to look forward to. No matter how many sunsets one sees coming down over the barely visible mountains in the back, each one can fill you with a different feeling. After a long day of school work or regular work on campus or off if you have a job, there is nothing like sitting in the chairs out in front of Mercy Hall and watching that horizon.

The new students I do have to say I get excited about. With the incoming class and the new transfer students, the potential for new friends and new things to come gets my blood pumping. I am always up to make new friends and see what the future holds and the possibilities are endless. Also, I am excited about the new possibilities that are out there with friends I already have. Who knows what this year holds.

Lastly, I must say that I get some of my most excitement from the new music club on campus. As the new Vice President of the music club on campus, the president, Matthew Rosas and myself along with all other officers in the club have a plan to completely revamp the music club at SJC. Since we all eat, sleep and breath music, we have no problem with pulling through on all of our aspirations. We hope to pull together a singing group (kind of like a choir, but not a choir), an acapella group, and help students achieve their own goals in relation to music.

This year, as I see it, holds a lot of potential and I cannot wait to see what there is to come. I honestly cannot get back to campus sooner enough and I bet some of you feel the same way!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
