Back The Blue

Protect and serve those who protect and serve.

They pull you over for speeding, they stick parking tickets under your windshield and they bust you for underaged drinking. Yes, I am talking about the police. They may not be the most loved group of people in the world, but maybe they should be. It seems America is too worried about everything our law enforcements have been doing wrong instead of praising them for everything they do that helps us. Police officers should be held at the highest level of respect.

Using violence against police is becoming more popular in the United States by the day. It seems like murdering a police officer when someone doesn’t agree with the law is a normal occurrence, which is completely uncalled for and unacceptable. Some may argue that some law enforcers do not perform their job correctly, and that is the reason they have been killed. This doesn’t make much sense to me, because a teacher would not be murdered for not teaching a child how to add correctly, a mechanic would not be murdered for not fixing the squeak in a car’s breaks and a mailman would not be murdered for misplacing a package. Any of these murders would be considered an absolute outrage of ignorance. These blue-collared workers just made a mistake in their work. They are only humans. Yes, they may have a few people upset with them, but no one is going to threaten their life. So why do so many Americans see right past a police officer’s human mistake? Why do people think it is perfectly fine to kill someone simply because they made an act of misjudgment? I don’t know how many people actually know the job title of a police officer, but if you take a look on the side of their vehicles you will read “protect and serve.” If they were not interested in protecting and serving ALL Americans, they would not have chosen the career of law enforcement in the first place.

Another argument that arises from statements such as “Police Lives Matter” and “Back the Blue” is the issue of race hatred. Some say “Police Lives Matter” is a way of discrimination toward those who support “Black Lives Matter.” I’ve never understood this idea. When I hear someone supporting the police, never have I thought they must be a vicious racist. Actually, I have thought the exact opposite. If you have ever paid any attention to our police force, you would notice there are a very diverse group of hard workers. There are many different races spread throughout police departments within America. So declaring “Police Lives Matter” is more racially supportive and peaceful than the statement “Black Lives Matter.”

I will always be grateful for every single police officer in the United States. Their dedication to protecting my rights, my freedom and my life is something I can never repay to our law enforcement. Next time you happen to be going 50 mph in a 35 mph zone and you’re caught by a police officer, instead of arguing and being upset with them, thank them. Thank them for keeping our roads, our schools and our country a safer place. I hope you join me in backing the blue. For those who choose not to, remember who you are calling when you are in a situation that requires law enforcement attention.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
