As we arrive back to campus for a fresh start to a new semester, we have to get back into a daily, normal schedule that does not involve waking up at 2 o'clock in the afternoon anymore. Here are a few reminders and tips to think about as classes being.
- Study in advance: putting things together at the last minute can be dangerous for your grades especially right as the semester begins. Try starting out by practicing good habits, giving you a head start on the right foot.
- Be productive when studying: as college students it can be hard to be productive when there are distractions such as phones, friends and other priorities, but make a point to only focus on studying while you have the time to.
- Wake up early and make a plan: a plan of action and an organized schedule for the day is the best way to keep on track. Keeping a set wake up time and bed time and then planning your day within that is the best way to keep a schedule.
- Recite notes out loud: reading your notes out loud to yourself is a great way to embed them into your brain and help you remember what notes you took in class.
- Read your notes before bed: lightly re-reading your notes before going to bed has shown that you are more likely to remember them, and will greatly help when it comes time to studying for your tests.
- Respect your body: treating your body with the right nutrients, getting enough sleep and staying active while all keeping a positive attitude and making a routine out of it is a good way to start out the new year and semester.
- Be kind to yourself: treat yourself every once in awhile. Indulge in that ice cream or piece of pizza. Don’t let anyone dull your sparkle! Be a light in the new year and do it for yourself.
