Back In The Swing Of Things

Another year of school, another adventure awaiting.

Back In The Swing Of Things

Already into the third week here at Bridgewater State University, and I think I am finally starting to get into my rhythm once again. Sophomore year for me has already been a bit hectic. I've changed my major again, taken on the Editor in Chief position for The Odyssey Online group here at BSU, joined a couple more clubs, and moved into a suite with a fabulous new roommate.

I'm back at my old job from last year as well, back with all the smiling faces and glorious personalities of the Music Department. They are probably some of my favorite people, faculty/staff/students and all, they are all wonderful people to work around. There is never a dull moment in this department.

Although it is only the third week of school, and really only the second full week, I already feel like I've been here for months. I have the advantage of living directly under my best friend this year, and I have seen more of her and her suite mates more than ever this year over last year. They are like family, and have kept my sanity at a healthy level.

I've met a few new people this year already as well, with all the new classes and extracurricular activities I'm taking, who I hope to get to know more. Between ukulele jam every Wednesday nights from 5-6 PM with Dr. Bishop in Hunt, to my many other weekly meetings, I have kept myself busy. The need to stay organized is a must, especially when I'm finally trying to get my life together.

One thing I do say I am lacking this year so far is a steady workout plan. Thankfully the school made gym membership here free for students (bless BSU), but I have yet to even step foot in the facility. I've done a few exercises in my room, but nothing super drastic. It's been hard to adjust my schedule now that I'm at school once again, and no longer home where I had a routine all summer.

This year will be much different besides the obvious things, solely because I have my car on campus this year. I now have the freedom to be able to leave school if I need to, to grocery shop, or just be able to leave campus to go explore or hike or something. I'm no longer limited to what I can do over the time that I am here. Plus, now I am no longer relying on a parent to come get me at school, or have to negotiate carpool options.

I look forward to this next year of schooling, especially since there have been a lot of changes in my initial tract here. I'm also excited to be finishing out my music minor by the end of this Fall semester, which will be awesome. I can't wait to face the challenges that are ahead for this year, and I wish everyone else luck in whatever year of school they're in!

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"
