A couple weeks ago, I wrote a story essentially praising Drake for being able to push through and still make music that was reflective of what he felt he was comfortable with even when people called him too awkward or soft to be a rapper but in light of the release of his new song "Two Birds, One Stone" I take all of it back. Drake is not by any standards my favorite person but I had so much more respect for him before these stunts that he's been pulling as of late. While his clout and status may attest to his ability to deliver when it comes to creating great music he isn't the most respectable human, in fact he may more of an airhead that fails to lack substance than I might've thought.
While other historical rap feuds have ended in the exchange of words that might not be in the best taste i have yet to meet a match for Drake's pun as he called Kid Cudi out once again, only this time to make a sham of his mental health. For such a prominent figure to even let something as personal as his mental health status be known to the public, this act is heroic in itself because people want to believe to badly that mental health is one of those issues that skipped the Black race because of our failure as a people to acknowledge that black mental health is something worthy of committing time and energy to.
Two Birds, One Stone not only made fun of Cudi's condition but it also called his sickness one of his "phases" as if it was something he could outgrow or that he was inflicting on himself. When called out on his actions Drake didn't reflect on his moves and leave open the door that maybe he did blow things out of proportion with his words and act unreasonably, instead he kind of shrugged it off and had nothing more than a few childish words to attempt to remove the blame from himself.
All in all I think that everyone needs to start taking black mental health more seriously and understand that we can only grow and move forward as a people when we take the repercussions for our actions and make changes to our lives based on what has and hasn't been working productively for our well-being and that of others.
