"The Bachelorette" will air tonight, May 23, for its 12th season, starring JoJo Fletcher. "The Bachelor" has spinoff shows like "Bachelor Pad" and "Bachelor in Paradise." Personally, I am a big fan myself, I even went to a taping of "After The Final Rose." Every season entertains the masses which is why it has been so popular since 2002.
The Monday night guilty pleasure is known for its host, Chris Harrison, infamous personalities and drama. Notice not one word is about love? That's because it isn't. We live for the crazy men and women who show up the first night already in love with a person they haven't even met. We live for the catty fights between the girls and the passive aggressive comments among the guys. We love/hate that one person every season who is "totally not right" for the bachelor/bachelorette -- that's because they entertain. Without them, it would just be boring. I hope I am just stating the obvious by saying the show is not about love.
Somehow we are all accepting of a person dating 24 or more people without question. We don't bat an eye that a person kisses one person one minute, and then moves on to the next within a few other minutes. The hype is built up to an engagement between two people who have only been on a few dates together. Maybe some of us keep coming back in hopes for a happy ending, but mostly for the drama it brings.
Out of the 30 seasons, only five couples have ended up married. The reality hits the couple after months of the most unbelievable dates that only happen in movies. The "winner" also has to watch every single person their new fiancé kissed throughout their time there. If that doesn't send a rift through the relationship, I don't know what does. The most famous couple, Trista and Ryan, have had two kids and have been married for 10 years. They were featured on a show called "Marriage Bootcamp," where couples would go to fix their broken marriage. Whether they did it for money or to help their marriage, it is another entertainment route for love.
The taping of "After the Final Rose" was everything a "Bachelor" fan hopes for. You clap on command and boo on cue. I went to the taping of Ben, and scandalous Courtney. The live taping was full of drama, and this time, the villain ended up with the heart of the beloved bachelor. Obviously, they did not end up together, and Ben was even rumored to be dating Kris Jenner. "The Bachelor" is just another source of entertainment for us. I watch it for the laughs and not the love.
So, for all you drama enthusiasts, "Bachelor Monday" is now in full swing. JoJo Fletcher, a fan favorite from Ben's season, will host 26 men vouching for her heart. This season features a U.S. Marine, a Canadian, an erectile dysfunction specialist and Santa Clause. The runner up will be able to get her chance at "love." I'm sure it will be a season filled with jealous men and interesting characters.
So, everyone get their bachelor viewing parties ready because another season is on its way. We can't wait for all the gifs it will bring this season. Happy Bachelorette Monday!
