Okay, don't get me wrong - I have watched "The Bachelor" with my family and friends. It's not horrible, but there are a few messed up things in the TV show. I will explain my reasons, and you can tell me if I am wrong or not.
They have such unrealistic expectations. As a single girl, I have realized that watching this show represents something to a guy that I wouldn't want. It shows a guy that I believe it's okay to go around dating him, while he dates others also. This is something I do not want for him or myself.
It is pretty ironic that they call "The Bachelor" a reality TV show when it is far from it. My grandparents have been dating for years, and they didn't start it out by getting a group of girls together to see which one is the best for my grandpa, and he just happens to pick my grandma. No. They went on an actual date. One on one. No one else was in their lives. When my grandpa proposed to my grandma, it wasn't because she won the most roses. It was because he loved her and wanted to spend the rest of his life with her. That is real. That is true love. (Just a little side note: this show has things that have never been okay in society. How would you react if a guy chose you because of how you acted and not your actual personality? Please keep it real, ladies.)
These guys are dressed to impress. Us girls do not see the acne and the poorly dressed clothing because it's a tv show. They fix it all for them. It is showing us only one side of the story and it, of course, is glamorous.
Relationships take time and effort. Let us not forget that. These girls think they are in love, but they only have the idea of it. Love is special. It takes time to grow. You can't just date for a couple of weeks and decide he is the one to marry. It just doesn't work that way.
What I am not saying is that if you watch the show you are evil, dumb, or stupid. I have friends who watch it for the ridiculousness or entertainment aspect, which I can understand. I just want all you girls not to take it to heart and realize its just a show. Sit back, relax, and enjoy "The Bachelor."
