How many of you have worked through college, whether it be to support yourself or for a little extra money?

How many of you would like to get paid for doing the bare minimum? If you answered yes to both of those topics, Nannying is the job for you. When I say “Nanny” most of you might instantly tune me out for the next few minutes and dismiss the idea as being too “bougie.”

I would encourage you to listen because surprisingly it’s a great job. You get to hang out with kids and get paid for things like going to sky zone.I have nannied all through college, and actually still do. I started with a six-year-old named Liam and now I watch a five-month-old named Avery.

Lots of people are looking for jobs in college, but not a lot of people think to look into the world of babysitting and nannying. I used to nanny a boy named Liam and he LOVED Sky zone. We would go almost every time that I watched him and would also take me to El Jalisco. The best part? It was all paid for, and I was getting paid on top of that. We always had a fun time, and I got to know one of the coolest kids in Tallahassee and hang out with him at least three times a week.

When you first start looking for a job in the nannying and babysitting world it might seem intimidating, but I promise you it is not as scary as it seems. One of the best steps you can take is to look into meeting some people that are from the area where you go to college that might have roots in the town.

They can help connect you with families that might be looking for help. You can get involved with local groups that might be able to connect you with moms looking for help. Both of my nannying jobs have come to me in this way. I heard of someone looking for help from a friend who lived in Tallahassee and reached out and offered to start watching her son. This turned into a steady job for almost two years.

Making connections has another added bonus of being able to get referrals. If you can say a name of a trusted friend, the parents are more likely to trust you with their children. Another great resource is Care.com. There are hundreds of positions available on the site and new ones come available almost every day. The site is attractive to parents because all of the sitters go through a background check before they can be hired. This has an added level of credibility for parents looking to hire new help.

I encourage all of you to seriously consider this a valid job opportunity while in college. Not only does it have a higher quality of life, and super flexible hours attached to it, it's also not hard to find local families looking for help. As college students, we are always looking for ways to support ourselves. I think personal out of all of the part-time jobs available that it would be a shame for someone to not even give babysitting a second look. Now get out there and start looking. You never know, you might just find your newest, best job yet!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
