On May 9, a baby Bactrian camel was born at the Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago. Look at this camel.
In June, the zoo announced his name: Alexander Camelton.
In addition to his awesome name, the zoo also stated that baby A. Cam was the first calf born to his parents, Nasan and Scooter. He's also the first baby camel born at the zoo since the late '90's!
So, here's to you, Lincoln Park Zoo! Thanks for being rad and naming your newest baby camel after something that the entire world, literally, is obsessed with.
If you're interested in learning more about Bactrian camels, check out the Lincoln Park Zoo's Bactrian Camel Fact Sheet. This species is critically endangered - so kudos to the zoo for picking a name with a lot of hype behind it... perhaps that'll help bring awareness to the camels' status on the endangered species list!
Here are more photos of this camel, because BABY CAMEL.
