On Wednesday, Governor Doug Ducey announced that the stay-at-home order put in place earlier in April, would be extended until May 15th. He also announced a three-part process to start the reopening of businesses. All three steps include voluntary openings for businesses that wish to do so, as well as strict social distancing guidelines. According to the Arizona Department of Health, there are over 7,000 cases of COVID-19 in the state. With cases rising, we are one of around 10 states with an upward trend in people getting sick. This is not good news. However, the cases per 100,000 according to the New York Times, are low. AS more and more states look to open their economies back up, Arizona is taking a somewhat cautious approach. However, it is not one of the western states in a coalition to open up together. The Grand Canyon State will hopefully see a flattening or a downward turn in the curve. For now, social distancing and washing hands seem to be the best defense against COVID-19.
