'Here Come The Runts' is AWOLNATION’s third studio album and it was produced on February 2, 2018, by Red Bull Records. AWOLNATION is California based rock band and formed by frontman Aaron Bruno. This four-membered group is most noticeable for their song “Sail” which was released on their first album 'Megalithic Symphony.'
'Here Come The Runts' leaves much to be desired and is an incredibly short album. This 46-minute record seems like it was only produced as a last-ditch effort of the band in order to sound relevant again.
The album begins with the title track “Here Come the Runts” which is an unnecessary “call to arms” for a rebel without a cause. “Passion” follows this track and is supposedly the best song on the album. However, I was not impressed.
Bruno continuously repeats “Blow my mind" in a high-pitched tone over and over, which gets old very quickly. Overall the song sounds like something that “Glass Animals” would make, but they would have put more effort into it.
“Miracle Man” is the last “favorite” track on this album and the term “favorite” is used loosely. The song repeats “We need a miracle, a miracle, a miracle man” over and over without much else to the song. “Miracle Man” does not bring anything to the table, and I don’t understand why it’s one of the “best” tracks on this album.
My favorite track on the album is tied between track seven “Seven Sticks of Dynamite,” and track eight “A Little Luck and a Couple of Dogs.” These are my tied because I felt like the band put the most effort into each song.
Track seven transitions from a mundane four-chord guitar, into something big around two minutes and twenty seconds in. I enjoy track eight because the song is straight to the point, and dogs are the best.
Overall the album was un-impressing and left me feeling as if the band spent so much time on this project without really creating anything. This album gets a light 4 out of 10 and I would not go search for this album on vinyl.
