25 Awkward Moments in College

Moving in with people you've never met before can get pretty interesting, to say the least. College classes a professors are a lot different from what you had in high school. Getting used to these changes can get pretty awkward. For example:

The first week of classes when people go to the wrong room

Also the first week: finding out you have three classes with your fling from last semester (that happened to end badly)

Opening a snack during a lecture

Walking in to class late and everyone stares at you…not only that, but your professor makes it a point to say hello to you and announce your name to everyone (in case they hadn’t noticed you already)

Running into a one-night stand…literally

Accidentally making eye contact with your prof after they ask a question

The first time you walk in on your roommate naked…it’s bound to happen

Enthusiastically waving to your friend and they don’t see you

Holding the door for someone for an obscene amount of time and they just walk through without saying thank you

Or when someone right in front of you lets the door slam in your face

When no one in the class did the reading

People talking in class when you’re actually trying to pay attention, but you don’t want to be that person

Seeing your professor off-campus

Tripping on the stairs in between class blocks

When you see your hot neighbor for the first time

When the prof says to pair up and you literally don’t know anyone

Going to office hours

Introductions on the first day and you can’t remember what you’re supposed to tell the class

When you get in the elevator with someone and it stops at the second floor

Seeing someone you don’t know but your roommate does, so you know things about them that you probably shouldn’t

When you walk into class and someone is in your unassigned assigned seat

Freshman year and you’re just standing in the middle of campus hoping someone you know walks by so they can tell you how to get to your class

Going to brunch and hearing all of the stupid things you did the night before

Walking in on your roommate having sex with his/her significant other

And, the classic: incorrectly answering a question out loud in class with confidence

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs.
