Was Avril Lavigne Replaced by A Doppelgänger?

Many fans know Avril Lavigne as the girl who sang “Sk8er Boi” and rebelled against society back in the early 2000’s. However, recently, Avril Lavigne has seemed to return to the music industry after remaining under the radar for several years. After seeing the difference in her appearance, many fans have been led to believe that she was replaced by a doppelganger after apparently committing suicide in 2003. Her doppelganger, supposedly named Melissa Vandella, is now labeled by a portion of the world as an “imposter." Many people dismissed this conspiracy theory until seeing a picture of Lavigne with the name Melissa written on her hand. The apparent proof many are using to prove this theory lacks any sort of factual evidence.

According to Konbini, the proof of this conspiracy includes Lavigne’s music getting darker as the years go on, change in appearance, and recent Instagram posts that have “secret messages” behind them. Many strong believers in this theory claim she has shrunk .02 meters and has had a change in weight. The evidence has remained the same for as long as the conspiracy has been around. Change in style, enlarging of a birth mark, and hairline movement are only a few examples of what conspiracy theorists use to back up this idea. This theory began in 2015 and has recently gained even more popular this past month in 2017. Although nothing has been verified and Avril Lavigne has yet to comment, sources of these ideas refuse to believe that she is still in fact alive.

Those who are against this theory believe that Lavigne has gotten plastic surgery multiple times and has changed physically simply because it is only natural to grow. Other common questions include “How many people could keep this a secret?” and “Why would her parents ever agree to this?”

Nevertheless, this theory has been relentless and people all around the world are determined to find more evidence relating to their ideas behind it. Other celebrities, such as Paul McCartney and Elvis, have had similar theories accused, but this one is the most recent and is legitimately taking over social media. Avril became extremely famous at only 17 and now at 32, many news sources say that this is all a hoax due to the fact that she changed after stepping out of the spotlight. When her team has been asked about this claim, they simply state that Avril could care less what people think about her and that “she knows her fans don’t believe it."

Personally, I have to respectfully disagree that this theory has any truth behind it. The evidence is incredibly inaccurate and not based off of any factual information. After taking part in multiple conversations about this, I still can't see why people believe so strongly in this conspiracy. Between the minor change in the birthmark and the different camera angles, nothing seems to add up. Though many conspiracy theories leave a lot of room for opinions and argument, it's impossible for me to believe this one has any truth behind it.

Would Avril's parents agree to this? Would her whole team keep it a secret without someone looking for money after leaking the truth?

This all seems a little too complicated.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.

For many undergraduates across the nation, the home stretch has begun. Only one more semester remains in our undergraduate career. Oh, the places we will go! For the majority of college seniors, this is simultaneously the best and worst year out of the past four and here’s why.

1. The classes you are taking are actually difficult.

A schedule full of easy pottery throwing and film courses is merely a myth on the average campus. With all of those prerequisites for the upper-level courses and the never-ending battle you fight each year during registration for limited class seats, senior year brings with it the ability to register for the final courses you need to fulfill your major. Yet, these are not the easy entry level courses. These are the comprehensive, end of major, capstone courses designed to apply the knowledge from all your previous courses, usually in the form of an extensive research paper or engaged learning project. The upside is you actually probably really enjoy these classes but alas there is no room for slackers here.
