Avon: Diversity is Key

After bordering on the brink of bankruptcy due to poor upper management (comprised of only men), Avon realized that in order to remain a strong market competitor, they would need to become committed to diversity and the consumers whom they serviced. Because Avon’s primary customer base is women, that demographic was crucial to be represented in the senior management team. In addition, Avon saw an increased number of minorities entering the workforce, and realized that this shift would be critical to their success. The company set up various networks to serve as liaisons between associates and groups like African Americans, Hispanics, Asians, and LGBTQ, to allow for input on decisions that would affect both the marketplace and workplace. Through doing this, Avon is empowering women and minorities and gaining valuable insight to a number of unfulfilled markets. In addition to Avon’s commitment to diversity, the company also places great importance on social responsibility. The Avon Foundation is the largest corporate philanthropic organization dedicated to women’s causes globally, and has aided in shaping the brand’s name as one that gives back. Avon also values natural products and health initiatives, and has created several private label brands to provide holistic, healthy solutions to women’s problems. Through the production of Avon Color, Anew, Skin-So-Soft, and partnerships with various fitness/weight-management companies, Avon has been able to promote the health and beauty of consumers, naturally, around the world. Their Advance Techniques hair care line partners this nature-based focus with Avon’s value of diversity, and provides products for every age, hair type, and ethnic background, leading to successful results for the company. Lastly, Avon places innovation in high esteem, and because of this has worked to improve technologies that fuel the company’s business. Through the creation of an electronic ordering system, representatives can run their business more efficiently and accurately, and in the United States, myavon.com grants Avon reps the ability to utilize personalized website pages and marketing initiatives to secure sales. Avon’s values of diversity, social responsibility, and innovation have all allowed the company to thrive even after 125 years.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Stop Hollywood

Without Blair, the show doesn’t have any substance, scheme, or drama. Although the beginning of the show started off with Blair’s best friend Serena returning from boarding school, there just simply is no plot without Blair.
