Getting the most out of your time off

Breaks for school are usually a great thing. You get out of class, away from the drama and have a chance to remember that you have a life outside of school. There is no school food, annoying people (unless you know some) and you can sleep as much as you want. It all sounds so good! But what about the moment you are ready to go back? Or that time you get "burnt out" doing the same things you do on every break and you get tired of seeing your family every day. Or even hearing the infamous "Be a better student" speech is stuck on repeat and then realizing you actually have to do housework. Your break is basically over and so is your attitude of staying away from school. Why not try to get more fulfillment out of it than just the normal lazy week of monotony? Below are a few ideas to help break the monotony and help you venture into new things to make your break worth while.

Get outside! One of the best therapies in life is nature. Hiking is a past time that is not only physically active, but mentally refreshing by focusing on something other than a text book. Get out and do something and don't sleep your life away!

Travel somewhere! Why would anyone want to ever stay in the same place for all of their life and never experience new things? Go somewhere that you have never been before and enjoy an afternoon/night in a foreign place! Gas is cheaper than it has been in a long time. Take advantage of that and hit the open road!

Meet new people! This isn't a ploy for a dating website, but it can open up new opportunities and relationships in your life. Rather than just sitting around with the same people doing the same thing, go out and meet some new friends! Get to know people outside of your circle. Having to many friends is never a problem!

Volunteer in your community! There are always chances to better someones life and your community. Rather than just sleeping all day, volunteer at a local establishment in your area and serve someone in a way you never would. Putting people first in life will not only help you build relationships, but you will be more satisfied knowing you have helped someone that truly needs it.

No matter what you decide to do this break, I can only hope that these 4 things help shape a new mentality when it comes to the way we look at breaks. I am guilty of being the person that wants to sleep all the time and do the same thing I always end up doing. This year, I want it to be different. Doing other things branches you out and challenges you in ways that the monotony wouldn't. Get out this spring break. Do something crazy and wild (not just party) and enjoy life. Life was not given to us to be mundane, rather to be an adventure that we get to walk through until our demise. Don't sit around and be a waste of space; use your space to interact with others! Happy spring break!

You get to check things off of your requirement checklist. It's an opportunity for a fresh start with new classes (which you tell yourself you'll never skip.) This process, which always starts out so optimistic, can get frustrating really quickly. Here are 25 thoughts you have when registering for classes.

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.

11 Times Aubrey Plaza Described Sophomore Year

"I don't want to do things. I want to do not things."

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.
