Being broke and being in college almost seem to go hand in hand. But, it definitely doesn't have to. I've listed five ways for you to save money and still get the things you want.

Download Honey ASAP!

I'm sure you've heard it from so many YouTubers but seriously, download Honey if you shop online at all. It automatically pulls up coupons and promo codes for almost any site you visit, and it will apply the best option at checkout so you can leave with the best deal. And, it's free to download and to keep. If you want to save money this is the best way to do it.

Do your research online!

I think for most of us, online shopping is easier. But seriously, check online retailers like Amazon for a cheaper price or maybe a bigger discount. Always be on the lookout for companies and their big sales, just recently Amazon had their annual Prime Day. If you need to buy some pricier things, try to wait until November for Black Friday and Cyber Monday. If you plan to shop smart you might be able to get the exact same thing for a much lower price, it doesn't get any better than that.

Check out this website.

Brandless is an online retailer that sells most items under $10. These are items you'll definitely need in your dorm or apartment and they're cheap! Cheap and eco-friendly, so we love that. There's food, decor, cleaning supplies and more! Give it a look, at the very least.

Always ask about a student discount.

So many places offer a student discount, they just don't advertise it. Whether it's retail shopping like: Nike, PINK, American Eagle, TopShop, Champion, and more. Or if you're going out to eat at places like: Chipotle, Buffalo Wild Wing, Chick-Fil-A, Waffle House and more. Moral of the story, always ask about a student discount- the worst they can say is no.

Be on the lookout next week for an insane list of student discounts, from yours truly.

Learn how to budget before you start college.

Ask your parents for advice or look it up online. You should know how much money you'll have to work with each month and divide it up on a weekly basis. My biggest tip is to have a physical reminder of your money and your budget. That can be journaling and tracking every time you spend your money. Some people like to stuff envelopes with the money they're allowed to spend. Just make sure you have a plan because it's super easy to buy Starbucks every day when there's the coffee you already paid for in the dining hall. It's super easy to waste money on anything really, so make sure before you start you have the skills to hold back.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
