After eleven years of buildup and twenty-two movies, 'Avengers: Endgame' is finally hitting theaters next week. It seems like it's taken too long for the millions of anxious, dedicated fans left waiting to see the fate of their favorite heroes and the end of what is now referred to by Marvel Studios as the 'Infinity Saga.' However, it seems that many of those fans have learned some of the crucial plot points of the movie a bit too early.
Leaks of footage and descriptions of said footage surfaced out of the blue yesterday on outlets like Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook, leaving most of the fanbase in an uncurable rage. Some have waited for these character arcs since two-thousand-eight when the first Iron Man movie took the screen. Fortunately, the footage was taken down from most of the internet soon after its posting and is becoming harder and harder to find by the minute.
Anthony and Joe Russo, the directors of both of the latest Captain America films, 'Winter Soldier' and 'Civil War,' and 'Avengers: Infinity War,' are at the helm of the latest Marvel installment. They've issued a sincere letter on their Twitter, pleading for fans to keep the secrets of the film to themselves. Many have been theorizing the movie's plot, character arcs, and finale since the end of the last movie in May of last year, so this long of a wait would be catastrophic to ruin.
The movie is projected to be one of the biggest movies of all time. in pre-sales alone, 'Endgame' sold almost double the tickets of 'Star Wars: The Last Jedi,' 'Avengers: Infinity War,' 'Aquaman,' and 'Captain Marvel' combined. The day of the ticket's release, nearly every possible online outlet to purchase tickets were flooded and proceeded to crash, leaving some fans to wonder if they would even get theirs. To say the least, the hype is serious.
If you're adamant on avoiding spoilers, now is the time to do something about it. Usually, a week in advance to a movie this big is the riskiest time for leaks, so watch your media outlets. There are countless filters that can be applied to your social media; excluding character names, cast members, or even the entire movie title from your feed. Another great avenue for protection (while difficult) is deleting social media altogether. While this might be painful, if you truly want to save the surprise for the theater, it might be your best bet. Even tuning out of the internet for the next week might be sufficient if you want to be completely sure you don't have the movie ruined for you. You never know who's online, waiting to wreck your years of watching and waiting.
'Avengers: Endgame' hits theaters on April 26th. Be sure not to miss it, and be careful out there.
